It's a one off...we would have to leave mega early for the train journey, they would be missing a whole day off - they are doing A-levels & GCSE's respectively so I'm a bit Hmm

Haven't even mentioned it to them yet......

But once in a while you have to do impulsive things don't you?

I just feel that having so thoroughly enjoyed the summer holidays with the Olympic spirit & been glued to all the performances as we couldn't get tickets, it would be a nice way to finish off.

AIBU or really WWYD?

Ah go on! I would if I could afford the train fare down, my DD is doing GCSE's, she doesn't find one day hard to catch up on.

FalseStartered · 09/09/2012 19:25

i haven't read your OP

have a great day!

Gcse years and a level years are very important and a day off seems a crazy idea.

If they where younger I would say Yanbu carry on, ask them what they want to do.

Bossybritches22 · 09/09/2012 19:29

Lubey not sure I can afford it yet but I'll try!

It's six hours schooling, how much damage can it do to their education? Do it, do it, do it!

KarlosKKrinkelbeim · 09/09/2012 19:30

YABU and also contributing to the buggering up of the public transport system - we hapless commuters have suffered enough

JumpingThroughMoreHoops · 09/09/2012 19:30

How would feel if your childrens teachers all decided to throw a sickie and go to the parade?

OutragedAtThePriceOfFreddos · 09/09/2012 19:33

I wouldn't do it for exam years unless I knew my dc were well on track for good grades and would make extra effort to catch up. Also, I work in a school so I can't. I'm usually very ain't taking dc out of school for holidays and the like, but this can't be replicated again in oil day time like a trip abroad could be, so in general I think it's worth it.

We went to the Marathons for our last fix of London 2012 today instead.

OutragedAtThePriceOfFreddos · 09/09/2012 19:33

Ain't meant anti!

Bossybritches22 · 09/09/2012 19:34

McHappy yes that's what's holding me back...that & the price.

However they only went back last Weds so haven't really got in the swing of it yet....I'd not think of it later in the year...just soooo tempted!! Grin

Madeyemoodysmum · 09/09/2012 20:05

I'd go. We skived off to see the queen. Dd is 6 though. But it's a day not a week and very early in the year. Plenty of time to catch up on a few hrs

Sirzy · 09/09/2012 20:08

one day so early in the year for something that wont happen again any time soon - go!

Bossybritches22 · 09/09/2012 20:11

Jumping that would be up to them, this is not about skivving work ,if I took them I would tell the school why, not pretend they were both sick.

Outraged yes I'm very anti taking them out of school too, have never done it before that's why I'm feeling rebellious!! Grin

Trills · 09/09/2012 20:13

Ah, go on.

If they would like it, of course.

heronsfly · 09/09/2012 20:19

Id take them. my dds 2 & 3 are in the same year groups, gcse and A level.
Their whole school went on Friday so they obviously dont think missing one day will make much difference.
have a good day Grin

Badgerina · 09/09/2012 20:25

I would do it, and would have LOVED my parents to have been so uncharacteristically spontaneous Smile I think it's a great idea Grin

TheHouseofMirth · 09/09/2012 20:43

If they'd like to go then absolutely do it!

Doilooklikeatourist · 09/09/2012 20:50

GO !
My DC are A level and GCSE year too .
If we didn't live in bloody Wales , but nearer London we would be there with you .
Glued to the telly , me .

OhYouGreatGreatBritain · 09/09/2012 20:53

Go for it. If I wasn't working I'd probably do it and dd only misses school in cases of rampant virulent illness.

GetDownNesbitt · 09/09/2012 20:53

As a GCSE teacher - do it. Fuck it, they won't miss that much.

thecook · 09/09/2012 20:56

Do it!!!

teacherandguideleader · 09/09/2012 21:15

Loads of kids from my school have been going each day to events on school trips. Education doesn't only happen in a classroom - go and teach them about things that are worth celebrating. If any of my classes are missing tomorrow (I teach GCSE and A Level age groups) I won't bat an eyelid - although will be somewhat jealous that I'm not there with them!

As a secondary teacher.

Do it.

As long as they catch up it won't make the blindest bit of difference to their grades as a one off. No different to a school trip.

Tuttutitlookslikerain · 09/09/2012 21:22

My DC are in A level and GCSE years and I going to a concert tomorrow night. I suggested them coming home at the end of the 5th lesson instead of the 6th, and final one, so things wouldn't be so tight, but both said they can't afford the time off. As soon as they went back, they were back in the swing of it.

I wouldn't give them the day off for it. If they were younger I would.
