AIBU to think that if you live in a house that fronts straight on to the pavement, you shouldn't glare at people who walk past as though they were doing something massively rude (unless they are)?

I was walking at 2pm this Saturday afternoon with my dad, having a normal conversation (not loud or sweary or anything disruptive) and the number of people sat in their front rooms who stared and glared was astounding. They looked extremely pissed off too. I started to wonder if my clothes had fallen off or something! It must be hard to get anything done if you have to stop and glare at passers-by every 3 minutes.

Do you get random children/drunks playing knockie on your windows and doors?

That's something I've always wondered oddly enough?

TheSitChewAceChien · 08/09/2012 22:55

Me?
I used to have kids do it every now and then, but I don't anymore. (That sounded a bit sinister...)
Not sure why they stopped, probably my complete laziness to react bored them Grin

WelshMaenad · 08/09/2012 23:02

We live in a street fronting terrace, I don't get people knocking, but we have two really cute kittens who live in the window bays when it's sunny and I frequently walk into my lounge to find people 'chatting' to them or trying to get them to jump at their fingers through the glass. I don't really mind, it entertains the kittens!

TheSitChewAceChien · 08/09/2012 23:06

Ah that's sweet Welsh!

One of my neighbours has a (very lovely) dobermann, no-one walks too close to her windows Smile

WorraLiberty · 08/09/2012 23:06

TheSit yes it does sound sinister! Grin Grin

Only once has someone knocked on my window and that was when I was having a daytime nap on the sofa! Horrid shock but I couldn't help but laugh too.

I live in a house like this and i hate it. Never again. The noise of outside is so loud, kids screeching and having races up and down the road till 1am, parents/neighbours sitting out on their doorsteps drinking and shouting till the early hours etc. When it's hot i don't want to open the front windows. I have to keep the blinds down all day because people stare in.

TheFogsGettingThicker · 09/09/2012 12:21

I would hate this, got to say.

My gripe is having open plan front gardens down our road. Leaflet delivery/fast food menus delivery folk who can't be bothered to walk back down the short drives, just cut straight across the lawns in front of my window. I hate seeing tall figures moving past my line of vision unexpectedly.

It's really unnerving, silly as it sounds. We don't have a pavement on our side of the road either so I'm not used to casual pedestrians. (Although there are children in our road calling for mine so I'm getting used to faces popping up in the window now....)

bobbledunk · 09/09/2012 12:28

Were you shouting? Many people think they're talking, it's not talking if people can hear your conversation from inside their own homes!

SoleSource · 09/09/2012 12:42

Oooh fecking ROAR at Worra.

I have never seen such a long OP as this OP.

I live in a terraced house and people do look in even.though I have wooden blind. Makes me feel special.

AmberLeaf · 09/09/2012 12:52

On a related note, I wonder about this when people have no nets or blinds up at their windows but insist in sitting in their front rooms lights on blazing but have their curtains open!

When its dark outside and the lights are on in the room its really hard to not look in as you walk past.

When its dark I have to shut my curtains before I can switch the light on as I dont like the thought of people seeing in.

So YANBU. ive had people glare at me when ive looked in under the conditions above and I just think 'shut your bloody curtains then'

Bilbobagginstummy · 09/09/2012 13:02

I live in a house like this too - and my cats often sit in the windows.

The windowsills are toddler height and the cats love being said hello to by toddlers. Older people generally just glance but not gawp.

FreudiansGoldSlipper · 09/09/2012 13:06

are you Cilla Black

maybe they thought you were going to surprise surprise them and glaring at you in a fuck off with your surprises way

or maybe they were daydreaming

hornbill · 09/09/2012 13:10

I walk the dog down a street like this to get to the fields, and I can't help a shifty glance in sometimes, especially in the winter when the rooms are lit up, they look so cosy and I check out their decor Blush
