No milk at nursery?

Bit of background:
My ds is in nursery three days a week ( I work pt). When he started there he was 10 mo , not a big fan of solids and having SMA stage two milk in bottles.

Anywhoo, he than had a nasty bout of gastroenteritis which left him lactose in tolerant. He had been on LF milk for a few months of which I was asked to provide (not a problem) . He began tolerating cows milk in food gradually and then had three bottles a day of 'normal' SMA toddler milk . I told his key worker this and she said when the LF milk ran out, I would have to supply toddler milk. Again no problem .

One day last week, I dropped him off at 8 am and picked him up at 4pm. His key worker said he'd been very tearful after lunch as they'd run out of milk so didn't give him a bottle as " we didn't have any"

Am I being a bit pfb? Should I say anything to the manager? They're usually very good in contacting me. Ds also has cows milk of which they're aware of and the nursery kitchen is full of formula various!!

If there's an issue here, they should have rung you for help to sort it out.

Wheresmycaffeinedrip · 08/09/2012 18:02

So what happened to your formula? If you provided it where did it go?

Fairylea · 08/09/2012 18:04

So lunch was at 12 (??) And they've left a baby unhappy and unsettled wiithout his usual milk with not even a phone call to his parent to ask what to do?! I think that's terrible :(

trumpeter · 08/09/2012 18:04

Missing one bottle won't kill him! Calm down.

Softlysoftly · 08/09/2012 18:05

How old is he now? They should have given him cows milk or called you.

OhNoMyFoot · 08/09/2012 18:06

I would be interested to know if they are claiming his free milk, there is no excuse for leaving a baby like that when they know he can drink cows milk.

diddl · 08/09/2012 18:17

If there was something there that he could have had, I don´t understand at all why they didn´t give it.

Wheresmycaffeinedrip · 08/09/2012 18:18

Was there something wrong with him at the time? as surely as he was ten months old when he started and your talking over a period of weeks then surely if u picked him up at four and he would have had food at lunch time 12 ish presumably then surely he's old enough to last four hours with no milk?? Maybe he just wasn't feeling well :(

Sirzy · 08/09/2012 18:19

How old is he now? Had you checked they had enough milk?

crackcrackcrak · 08/09/2012 18:20

Yanbu - sometimes my nursery runs out of dd's nappies - they don't leave her bare bummed - don't see how the milk is any different

Alliwantisaroomsomewhere · 08/09/2012 18:22

Ohnomyfoot, those were my thoughts exactly when I read the title of the thread.

happydotcom · 08/09/2012 19:13

Thanks for your responses!
He's 15 mo now. Drinks cows milk ( sippy cup or bottle).

It's odd as they call me when he has a temp / rash / unwell etc.

I know one missing milk won't mean he'll starve but both dh and I work 3 mins away from nursery.

I think it's because it 'didn't seem to matter' to staff and he'd become upset as he didn't get a drink - everyone else did!!

Maybe they were just a bit confused. With all the milk changes and lactose issue maybe they felt that giving him the wrong milk was worse than not giving him any at all. :(

happydotcom · 08/09/2012 19:22

wheresmycaffeinedrip ( love the name btw!)
True.
I think I'm being a bit pfb / hormonal :o

FWIW - I had checked with nursery and they said they had enough milk.

Nursery advertise their nursery as 'all fees inclusive of nappies,wipes,SPF20 cream etc etc'

But they don't suppy milk for over 1s!! Bloody cheek for fecking £700 per month

:) I doubt any one would have purposely left him out and as horrible as seeing him upset would have been, if they knew about his problems and multiple alternatations of milks and his ability to cope with varying degrees of either , then I think the right call was made if there was any doubt as to whether he could have it.

Granted they could have called though.

Perhaps it would be wise to go and speak to the staff make sure they know he can have the milk or that you are happy for him to
Be given any formula available should they run out of what you provide. :)

diddl · 08/09/2012 19:33

I really can´t see how hard it is to know what sort of milk a child can have even if it has changed a few times.

For the sake of a note by his name or a phone call to a parent.

How bloody difficult is it?

happydotcom · 08/09/2012 19:39

Thank you diddl, that's what I keep thinking!

OhNoMyFoot · 08/09/2012 19:59

They left him out but gave it to all the others Shock

Seriously check if they are claiming the free milk, I'll be quite shocked if they aren't or if the staff guzzle it all
