We cannot quite agree.

I think it would be a faux pas.

It is not even very nice.

But it is original art work.

However, BILs new girlfriend is pregnant, and I really think it is not the right time to display any paintings BILs artist exwife painted.

I KNOW I am not BU.

He then suggested we give it to Bil and his gf for housewarming, but that would be even worse. I dont think he was serious, though.

The fact that it may be 'original art work' is neither here nor there if it's a bad painting.

I'd give it to a charity shop.

This must be a crazy idea Shock but have you asked your dh WHY he wants to hang it or wants his brother to have it?? If there's no reason then either give it to her children (if she has any) or give it to charity

Put your foot through it

Burn it. It sounds creepy and may be possessed.

We have a painting by one of DP's exGF in the toilet.
I like to look at it when I crap.

AlistairSim, you are very naughty! That "possessed" comment has got me laughing out loud just when I'm feeding DD before her nap!

joanofarchitrave · 08/09/2012 11:00

Don't. Having married into a family infested with a lot of artists, hang the ones you actually like or at least think you could get used to. Once something's up on the wall, taking it down is interpreted as a positive act of aggression. Not hanging it could easily just be not being able to lay your hand on a hammer - much less offensive.

Trills · 08/09/2012 11:01

Why would you hang up a painting that you don't like? Does DH like it?

cozietoesie · 08/09/2012 11:01

Decorating is a good excuse, joanofarchitrave.

I don't think other people care what is on your walls as much as you think - BILs new girlfriend probably won't even notice that you have a new picture up.
