Just got back from Butlins, fantastic holiday one of the best i've had so no problems with the place itself. Just something struck me as being abit strange, in the swimming pool i saw a few kids at different times that were around the age of my DS (2.3) and they had dummies in while they were in the pool. We've been swimming every week since DS was 8 weeks and never seen it before. can't understand how they can manage to keep it in their mouths, what do they do when they accidently swallow water??

Unusual I'd say - I've never seen it. Wierd?? Did it bother you?

Morph2 · 07/09/2012 20:13

no obviously it doesn't bother me its just one of those things that you happen to really notice as its not something you usually see

Not so much weird as dangerous I'd say. I used to be a lifeguard and a dummy actually in the water is a choking hazard. Most pools wouldn't allow it.

Tryharder · 07/09/2012 20:19

Wouldn't happen at Centerparcs Wink

What tryharder said Grin

MrsTerrysChocolateOrange · 08/09/2012 00:38

How is it a choking hazard?

Kayano · 08/09/2012 00:44

I saw this in centre parcs!!!

I was like wtf?! Get that out of his mouth!!! I couldn't understand it!

Kayano · 08/09/2012 00:45

X posts - I honestly did see this at centre parcs on Thursday lol

CoolaSchmoola · 08/09/2012 01:00

I don't get how it's a choking hazard either - seeing as they are deliberately designed NOT to be.

Mind you I do think it's weird.... My DD has a dummy for sleeping, but not whilst swimming, or in the bath either for that matter!

AllThreeWays · 08/09/2012 01:31

Never seen it myself, but I wonder if it helps them not to swallow the water. My DS used to try and swallow to whole pool,

I would be worried about a child who needed a dummy in a pool. Very lazy parenting indeed. Makes me think child has it in 24/7.

TeeBee · 08/09/2012 07:02

Dummies are for shutting up babies. Babies need shutting up in pools too, didn't you know Wink

WelshMaenad · 08/09/2012 08:07

I think it's weird that children of that age have dummies in the daytime at all. My DS is just a little older, and chats all day long, how do these kids talk with rubber plugs in their mouth??

LilyCocoplatt · 08/09/2012 10:19

YANBU to find it weird, when I went swimming recently there was a man in the pool with his iphone in a waterproof case, playing with it not using it to listen to music which I could sort of understand, did make me think FFS can you not be without angry fucking birds for one hour?
