Congratulations/well done on your first day at/first day back to school cards???

OP posts:
TheQueenOfDiamonds · 06/09/2012 19:22

When my youngest brother moved to his new school he got a certificate for 100% attendance.. after two weeks, Came home and asked if he could have a 'treat' (£50 game) for it.

My mum said 'You want 50 quid for doing something you legally HAVE to do?'

BarbarianMum · 06/09/2012 19:42

Well ds2 didn't get a card but we did celebrate the German half of his heritage by getting him a "Shule Tute" (bloody great cone full of pens, rubbers, arty things and sweets). And made a great big fuss of him and let him choose what to have for dinner.

First day of school is a BIG deal in our house. But YANBU - a card is so - bath salts.

Dramajustfollowsme · 06/09/2012 19:57

My sil got upset that I didn't buy one for my nephew last year. Everyone else did and she said that my card was conspicuous by its absence. Hmm

Floggingmolly · 06/09/2012 20:53

There's nothing new about these? Confused My dd got loads when she started school 7 years ago (eldest grandchild)

LackingNameChangeInspiration · 06/09/2012 20:55

I was looking for one of these for my friend's DS, ended up on a "good luck" one which didn't seem quite right as it implied that luck was needed and I wanted something a bit more positive!

I'm pretty sure I got little cards and bits n pieces from god parents and aunties etc every year comming up to september!

what's the problem? its nice to get cards!

tethersend · 06/09/2012 21:22

Another example of Broken Britain.

AgentZigzag · 06/09/2012 21:50

It's the entitlement some children feel they have to happiness and security that fucks me right off tethersend.

They should make it illegal.

Or at least tax it.

tethersend · 06/09/2012 21:55

That'd wipe the smiles off their stupid, cherubic little faces, Agent.

Welcome to the real world.

Perhaps the card could punch them in the face as they open it?

AgentZigzag · 06/09/2012 22:06

Or maybe just tell them the truth about how they're in for a life of destitution and disappointment?

I've already told DD1, from what I could tell between the racking sobs, she seemed to take it quite well.

2 YO DD just laughed and asked for an ice cream.

I told her the tories had stolen them.

Fozzleyplum · 06/09/2012 22:18

YANBU. I once worked in a town with several shops selling pointless greetings cards - the sort for non-occasions and very specific relatives. It was an area where inbreeding was rife, and I swear I once saw a card which read "Happy Birthday, Uncle Dad." Wink

tethersend · 06/09/2012 22:21

I'm off to wake my DDs and tell them Father Christmas is a cunt.

AgentZigzag · 06/09/2012 22:30

Well he is tbf.

A jolly, joyous, freaking cunt.

tethersend · 07/09/2012 09:19

He is. The cunt.

AgentZigzag · 07/09/2012 10:34

I was worried you really had gone and woken them up.

Telling them on Christmas Eve would be better.

tethersend · 07/09/2012 10:45

Excellent point.

WilsonFrickett · 07/09/2012 10:58

Christmas day I think.

To explain why there's no presents.
