to think they should put the rubbish in the bin

I've just had to clean my DD2's lunch bag after having 1/2 a yoghurt put bag in her lunch bag, is it unreasonable to assume that the teachers know that I am going to have no use for a half eaten yoghurt after 3 hours and they could encourage a 3 year old to put it in the bin. Those cool bag lunch boxes are a nightmare to get warm yoghurt out of! Angry

Couldn't you train your child rather than expect the teachers to inspect 30 lunch boxes?

JamieandOscarSittinginATree · 06/09/2012 17:44

Have you ever been in a lunch hall at school? Teach your child what to do

JamieandOscarSittinginATree · 06/09/2012 17:45

Oh and while you are at it, please remind her that if she drops something she needs to pick it up.

iamstitch · 06/09/2012 17:45

Our school does this. It's to show you what they have actually eaten Grin

DozyDuck · 06/09/2012 17:47

Annoying, but even DS who had 1:1 at lunchtime had spilled yoghurt in his lunch box. If you can train your child to do it (no SN) then do it yourself, if not, you'll have to suck it up I'm afraid

Startailoforangeandgold · 06/09/2012 17:50

No, they insist they bring the crap home so you can see how much they have eaten.
ie. avoid the queue at the bin.

PuppyMonkey · 06/09/2012 17:50

Yes, both my DDs brought half eaten stuff home as school said then I could see how much they'd eaten.

Ithinkitsjustme · 06/09/2012 17:55

There are only 18 kids with 6 teachers - shouldn't be that difficult to monitor! I don't mind them sending home half eaten wraps or whatever - but a yoghurt? and my DD is more than capable of putting her own rubbish in the bin if they are allowed to - but they're not.

6 teachers at lunch time for 18 kids? Are you sure?

JesusInACabbageVan · 06/09/2012 18:15

Our school does the same to make sure you can see what they've eaten. I decant yogurts into tupperware pots with lids so that DS1 can put the lid back on when he's finished. Much less mess.

Claireabella1 · 07/09/2012 19:38

I asked my kids to put their yoghurt pots and fruit skins in the bin at school, they said they would but still came home with all the rubbish, when I asked them why, they told me the lunch lady said not to so that I would be able to see how much they had eaten (bit weird) anyway, I gave them a spare sandwich bag to put the rubbish in and tie it up to protect their lunch bags.
