Don't know what's come overme really. It's 20-something degrees outside. But I've been reading about Lakeland Christmas stuff, woolly tunics and boots on here today. Now i just really fancy snuggling under a blanket with hot choc watching reports of Arctic weather on Sky

This thread has just made me try to panic-buy snow boots for DD. I was then incredulous that JojoMamanBebe has a 9 week wait for them at the moment according to their website.

DH then reminded me that it was early September, so there is not exactly a rush. Blush

YABU!

Snow is lovely for a couple of days in the holidays. But months and months of frost and cold? Fuck off.

I love nothing more than pottering around parks and the beach in the sun.

rogersmellyonthetelly · 06/09/2012 19:02

I'm not, given in due no 3 in feb, the last thing I need is to be lurching around on my unstable pelvis on ice :0/
Mild winter will do for me, with a couple of days of snow over Christmas!

Indith · 06/09/2012 19:05

I would love a proper winter. Last winter was pathetic really, no snow to speak of. The 2 winters before though, those really really bad ones were brilliant. I loved them.

Ok so you have to plan but if we had them more we would get used to them! We need to get our acts together and act like people do in countries where harsh winters are the norm. Spend 5 mins scraping the snow off the path int he morning then you don't have to spend 3 hours doing it a week later. That sort of thing. We put the car on the road rather than out the back and dh drove to bloody Newcastle every day no problem at all over the back roads to avoid all the idiots on the A1 who didn't know how to drive in snow. I loaded the dcs on the sledge and pulled them to the shops.

Nooooooooooo Angry

I have a Rayburn and two fireplaces. That's IT! No radiators, no gas. I will cry if I spend all winter shovelling coal.

maybenow · 06/09/2012 19:10

I'd rather it was -2 or -5 degrees and properly snowy/frosty/icy despite the lethal pavements than it were +2 deg and wet.. the +2 dampness gets into our old stone house and makes it feel far far colder than if it is actually below 0.
When it drops below 0 properly all the moisture in the air is frozen making the air dry.

[where we ar in scotland so hoping for anything above +2 or hoping for it not to be damp if it is above 0 is pointless]

LaurieFairyCake · 06/09/2012 19:12

I think we've had a really tough couple of winters Confused

2 winters ago, 6 days off school in the south-east, last year absolutely freezing and had the stove on in June for a couple of days.

UserNameNotAvailable · 06/09/2012 19:37

I hate being cold but I don't mind being wrapped up and walking the kids to school when it's chilly and dry but rain/sleet/hail/snow can all do one!

If its the holidays and I dont have to go out then it can snow while I'm snuggled up on the settee watching tv and glancing out of the window at the beautiful winter wonderland but I must be warm.

The snow must not turn to ice and slush though and stop me driving or walking anywhere.

KentuckyFriedChildren · 06/09/2012 19:39

Your school closed? Ours didn't and I bet we had more snow here. Saying that I do live in the highlands and we are snow hardened teuchs up here :o

Meglet · 06/09/2012 19:40

yabu. I hate the cold.

My gas bill will be astronomical if we have another cold winter.

JollyHockeyStick · 06/09/2012 19:41

Twas waist deep here a couple of years ago. In October, actually. Don't fancy that again!

KentuckyFriedChildren · 06/09/2012 19:44

I just hope our roof can stand another winter without mishap. I'd be happy with anything less than 2 ft really. At least then the tractors can come clear the road for me and I won't be totally stuck. Two years ago my neighbor broke his leg and we had to call the helicopter to take him to hospital. why do I live here?

aJumpedUpPantryBoy · 06/09/2012 19:44

I love frosty snowy winters, even though we are very rural I don't mind being stuck at home - I do hate it if it snows when I am in work and then getting home can be scary

However, I can guarentee it won't snow as I have bought new snow boots

Pascha · 06/09/2012 19:47

Seems odd to be talking about snow and ice when my forecast for tomorrow and the weekend is 23-24 degrees. I can't wait to put my summer stuff away and bring out the scarfs and hot chocolate now. No snow before new year though please - i'm not getting a maternity coat if I can help it.

AnnaRack · 06/09/2012 21:47

Yes, after a rubbish summer I hope we have a proper winter - ie cold and snowy - and not just dull and wet!
