All posted by adults, who presumably had an education. Recent examples include:

Good condishun
Chester draws
Tabel and chares
Ornimentel
Educashional toy (my personal favourite)

I think I'm going to have to leave the group, the urge to correct is going to get me into big trouble before long! Blush

I feel your pain. Personally I'm such an anally-retentive pedant I tend to dish out my Free-cycle stuff according to the gramatical correctness of the replies. ( Cringe emoticon ... )

Chester Draws is my all time favourite.

Lots of people on here say draw instead of drawer. Have they never read anything in their life?

what's wrong with a good educashunal toy? Confused
:o

Iheartpasties · 06/09/2012 08:56

Oh it's hysterical isn't it?

RuleBritannia · 06/09/2012 09:14

What does Chester draw then?

BalloonTwister · 06/09/2012 09:18

No idea Brittania. I am seriously concerned about phoenetic spelling though. :(

"Car 4 sale spairs or repares only"

Seriously? So close, but no cigar.

KenLeeeeeee · 06/09/2012 09:32

YANBU. And the use of numbers in place of similarly sounding words drives me loopy.

honeytea · 06/09/2012 09:49

I think yabu and a little mean, my spelling is rubbish because I'm dyslexic, I have a degree and a professional job, spelling doesn't have to be an indicator of inteligence.

Would you look down on a deaf person because their speach wasn't clear?

BalloonTwister · 06/09/2012 09:58

Honeytea, I am not being mean, (I struggled with dyslexia at school, and my handwriting is still rubbish,) I am genuinely concerned by the amount of people in this country that cannot spell. All of my examples are phoenetically correct, as that is how schools teach children to spell now, and that causes me concern for my own childs future education.

Literally every other post on this page is either misspelled or uses text speak/ numbers for words and ya instead of you. It makes my eyes itch! :(

OP posts:
RuleBritannia · 06/09/2012 10:02

BalloonTwister I didn't use numbers and I didn't spell incorrectly and I didn't use text speak (don't even when I use my mobile). So it's not 'literally' everyone.

It's 'phonetically', by the way.

NettOlympicSuperstar · 06/09/2012 10:04

Haha, mine is called, 'Thing's for sale in ', so I can't even look on there.

gettingdesperatenow · 06/09/2012 10:05

It's the same on mine. I joined to try to sell a large item that was pointless to e-bay. It was like there was some kind of secret society on there - everyone seemed to know each other, wrote in text speak that I couldn't decipher, and completely ignored my post.

'lookin 4 a lil tykes car 4 my lil man, pm me if u hv 1' - what?!

I never used it again.

PippasArse · 06/09/2012 10:05

It is not because the schools teach phonics Hmm

BellaOfTheBalls · 06/09/2012 10:07

I've had to leave mine. The spelling made me want to throw things. And quite frankly the guff people were selling wasn't worth it.

honeytea · 06/09/2012 10:08

But how do you know they don't have a condition that makes it hard for them to spell? It really bothers me when people are judged on their spelling, it's great that you don't struggle with it but i do find it mean to laugh/judge other people because they happen to spell badly. It seems ok to snigger at people's spelling whereas it is not ok to snigger at the way people speak/walk/interact with others.

When I was at school I was never graded on my spelling, the idea at the time was that if the reader could understand the word then that was a good start.

I can allmost understand if you were looking at badly spelt cvs but you are looking at things ot buy on a facebook page, im sure the bad spelling doesn't effect the item for sale.

RuleBritannia · 06/09/2012 10:09

Anyway, if you find that your child misspells a word, why not take him/her through it and explain that it is wrong and why?

littlemisssunny · 06/09/2012 10:10

rulebritannia I think she means the fb page not this one?

Love Chester drawers that's hilarious!!

ChaosTrulyReigns · 06/09/2012 10:12

Oooh.

How do I find my local selling page?

Machadaynu · 06/09/2012 10:14

honeytea - some of them might have a condition that makes it hard to spell, but the likelihood that such a high concentration of people would have the same condition, causing them to make the same spelling mistakes, is remote.

It's the same on local forums here - 'chester draws' is also one of my favourites.

StateofConfusion · 06/09/2012 10:17

spaires or repares best one yet!!

My dp is severely dyslexic, seriously cannot get it worse than he has it, I've seen the reports and him struggle for years, BUT there is this amazing technology on his phone/ipod/laptop called spell check, and he also is paranoid and gets me to to check everything he posts. I've found people with dyslexia care about making there spelling correct and seek out ways to do so, its general dumb arses who don't, and make up words.

Paiviaso · 06/09/2012 10:23

YANBU, it's awful the abuse the English language gets these days.

Chester draws is fantastic though.
