To feel sorry for myself

I bought dd new shoes from clarks less than three weeks ago to avoid the usual "sorry that item is out of stock " line, for £40 as they are the only shoes that actually seem to last a full year for us.Cue to today where dd comes home from her first day of school telling me her feet hurt from the sides and reveling fresh red marks on her feet because of the shoes digging in all day.

I looked for the receipt but can not find it at all and I am usually carefully to keep the things I need in a special box but what good is that? I just feel terrible becuase i couldnt keep track of a single piece of paper whilst i have other reciepts. To top it off my mother is blaming me for being irrisponsible as usual. I can't just replace the shoes right away as I don't have the money but it hurts to see dds first day of the new term ruined by me.

Rub them with vaseline and buy plasters. Stop stressing, they are new they will soften up Smile

Did you pay cash for them or credit/debit card? If you paid on card you can use your statement as proof or it chase to get a refund/exchange.

Tell you mum to take a hike, while you're at it.

clarks have fab customer service Im sure will replace without receipt, as obviously their mistake with fitting and good have to be "fit for their purpose" under sale of goods act. take them back, they will be ok about it.

InelegantlyWasted · 06/09/2012 00:02

*of purchase - damn autocorrect!

LondonKitty · 06/09/2012 00:07

How on earth are you irresponsible??? Don't listen to that for a start.

Are you sure this is not a little-feet-been-in-sandals/ crocs-all-summer sort of thing? Because their feet can get quite sensitive when they are re-introduced to winter wear. She might just need to wear them in.

omfgkillmenow · 06/09/2012 00:08

you dont need a receipt if goods are not fit for their purpose anyway and im sure clarks give something like a 3 month guarantee. my pal took back clarks shoes that still fitted after 6 months but leaked and got brand new pair for free. Your DC's feet cannot grow that much in 3 weeks. As long as you get exchange and not ask for money back you will be fine.

imperialstateknickers · 06/09/2012 00:10

Just to clarify, were these shoes fitted on your child in the shop at the time of purchase?

SophiaMurdoch · 06/09/2012 08:42

Thanks for replying Thanks .I feel slightly better but sent dd to school in trainers as she refuses to wear them. Yes they were fitted instore but I'm not 100% sure I used card so would have no proof per se until my next back statement comes rolling through.

In the past I have put raw potatoes into my shoes because apparently the starch softens the leather. Might be worth a try - leave them in over night.

imperialstateknickers · 06/09/2012 09:02

I think you should ask for an exchange with or without proof of purchase. If you've still got the box and carrier, that might vaguely help.

Did you have them fitted in the morning or afternoon? I'm told that feet can swell by up to half a size during the course of the day. Take her in for a fitting half an hour before closing time.

Clarks are a franchise and they're normally pretty decent about customer service, Head Office give good support to their franchisees but expect high standards in return.
