in wanting to know if DH has got this job?

Job situation for DH has been uncertain for a long time. 2 redundancies in 3 years, and current contract is due to finish at the end of this month. He's been job hunting and getting interviews, well, it seems like forever and now we are waiting to find out if he's got a job from an interview he attended on Tuesday.

Every time I promise myself I won't raise my hopes, but however hard I try I always seem to harbour more hope than I realise and it gets to this time of day and we haven't heard anything and I want to WEEP with disappointment.

They were interviewing yesterday and today, and said they'd let him know today or tomorrow. In teaching, you find out on the day. This job is for a university, admin role. AIBU in expecting a decision today, or can I still hope? Sad

FWIW, he thought it went well. I think I might cry.

I do hope it means he's still in the picture. Although 2 more jobs have come up, so at least we can have our hopes dashed again raise our hopes with those if this uni job doesn't come off.

HellonHeels · 08/09/2012 19:39

41 does your DH use the jobs.ac.uk site? Good for university admin jobs.

41notTrendy · 09/09/2012 09:34

Yes Hellon, he gets email alerts from it. Think that might be where he found this one we're waiting on.

Only just seen this post 41.My heart goes out to you, what an awful thing to be going through again and again.Much hand holding and finger crossing from me.Mx.

If the wait is this long, it usually means the job has been offered to first choice candidate who has been given a little time to consider the offer .
They will have said no to the definite rejects but held back from speaking to second or third choice until first makes decision.
Not ideal, but means there is still some hope.
I have interviewed hundreds of people and you would be amazed at the % of people who come for interview and then turn down the job when offered!

41notTrendy · 09/09/2012 14:26

Thanks maras Smile
I did wonder if that might be the case newgirl. It seemed an odd phrase to use, almost like as you say, we don't want to give a definite answer yet. Had a good weekend, had a long planned night out with friends and lunch out today with my parents, taken us away from thinking about jobs for a couple of days!

NewGirlInTown · 09/09/2012 22:20

Fingers crossed for you. Hope it works out.

maras2 · 10/09/2012 20:21

Any news yet?

41notTrendy · 11/09/2012 09:22

Nothing! But, DH went to see an agency about another job (temp) who asked if he'd gone for the uni job, because the woman who was recruiting for that role had contacted the agency to ask for their help Hmm
It turns out there's been someone doing the role he went for on a temp basis who was from that agency. And they want her to apply. So doesn't look too promising for DH!!
It's all such a game, so many hidden agendas. It's soul destroying. Sad

HellonHeels · 11/09/2012 10:09

Sorry it's dragging on so long. It's expensive to hire a temp as a permanent staffer, they would have to pay the agency a lot of money, so your DH has costs on his side.

41notTrendy · 13/09/2012 21:40

It's a no Sad
And he went for a temp contract today which was the same.
Shit.
I've cancelled my hair cut. I just want it to end.

41notTrendy · 13/09/2012 21:42

That sounded a bit over dramatic. I mean the job situation!

kilmuir · 13/09/2012 21:50

Sorry to hear that
