Is it UR (ie, unsafe) to have baby in a travel cot for first few months?

I can't bring myself to spend £70 on a Moses basket, and we don't have a car so getting a second hand one would be a bother.

John Lewis have some travel cots for sale that have an insert for babies up to 3m. Also have a changing mat insert and can be used as a play pen later. The bed bit is elevated do baby wouldn't be low down on the floor.

Can't do links as on phone, but: m.johnlewis.com/mt/www.johnlewis.com/231429262/Product.aspx

So, question is, would I be unreasonable to get one for our bedroom for the first few months when she's born?

We did the same as Anonymumous, when I wasn't ready DD was under 6 months, she was in the travel cot from about 4 months.

Its also been brilliant when she's been ill to have her back in our room for odd nights.

My DC both only ever had travel cots. They were fab. We decided to use them because we were always going to visit family and we felt they would settle better if they had their own cots to sleep in that they were familiar with.

Iggi don't know if this website is any good, they seem to do mattresses for all different makes of travel cots, if your travel cot isnt too old it might be an idea to try toys r us or mothercare to see if they still stock it and the mattresses [http://babymattressesonline.co.uk/products/mattresses-by-size/travel-cots-products.html website]

That's good, I have the grace atmosphere and got my mattress from toys r us but it was over a year ago

I put dd in her cot at 8 weeks because (IMO) the moses basket was crap. I put her next to my bed with the drop side down. For day time naps I used the carrycot downstairs. I rested it on a coffee table tucked away in the corner of the room.
