AIBU to ask how many people did 'get organised and together' after this old thread?

This one here --> to ask how you become organised and together? Seriously how??

I am curious to know how many people who contributed to this thread, particularly inatrance who started it, have in reality changed their homes and lives.

I can safely say that I have. Like really and truly no holds barred I sat and printed out the entire thread. I went through with a highlighter everything which I thought would work in our household and when we moved a few months ago I put it into practice and hey presto. I actually feel 'organised and together'. I thought when the ^ thread was initiated that I was organised but oh no, I have a whole new level of organisation now.

There is still more work to do for sure, but missed bills and forgotten birthday cards are a thing of the past, I always have stamps, reminders for insurances are written in the calendar two weeks ahead of renewal to shop around for the best bargains. We always have clean clothes ready every day, we have a clean house and always know what is for dinner. We have check lists for monthly tasks, weekly tasks and daily tasks, bags are packed the night before, clothes laid out on hangers for the week ahead, the toilets are always clean, the hoovering always done and no piles of bloody paperwork everywhere via an efficient filing system.

Its taken months. But I am curious to see how many others took heed of that thread or wether I am an anally retentive twit

I have posted in AIBU as this is where the original thread was.

I read the thread and set up lots of reminders on my phone feeling v organised but now I just ignore them when they pop up Blush
I feel guilty!

BartiiMus · 06/09/2012 08:53

I instigated the post thing, well actually we just put inboxes on our table by the door, one each for me and DH (we also had a third for "family" stuff but it just got ignored by bother of us Blush ) where we put our letters and keys etc.

Might suggest Cozi to DH but I don't think he'll play the game.

Am looking into buying a whiteboard for the kitchen to note the shopping list

Will go back and re-read the thread - thanks for the reminder!

And I used to have a paper diary but now use my iphone with reminders etc. as I can sync it to my work outlook

The paperwork thing was about filing everything by date rather than subject. So I had loads of different files for utilities, insurance, bank statements etc. Someone suggested that it was easier to file everything from one year together.
The problem with lots of separate files was I could not be bothered to keep on top of putting papers away so it became chaos.

So I have a box file with last year's date on (only started this year) with everything from last year in. When I've needed something from 2011 it has been easy enough to find.

My working file is an A4 ringbinder with poly pockets where I file stuff as I go along. I have a section for school, health, household bills, statements. Basically every envelope I open it either gets filed straight away of binned. Instantly much less paper lying around. I also have a budget, list of payment dates for bills and the first section is stuff that needs attention, ie bill or school permission slip.

The other thing I do is every date I need to remember I put on my phone so it automatically reminds me.

Cool, more people did comment.

It has taken a huge amount if effort to get sorted though, but I do need to be sorted out and house ship shape before the new year.

I was already organised... what does being a Tory (or a communist ugh) have to do with it? Confused Biscuit

Iheartpasties · 10/09/2012 10:49

Well I have begun being more organised the last few days, so spurred me on. Thanks.

halcyondays · 10/09/2012 11:24

I am a bit better. I've always good at putting things in the calendar and I'm always writing lists so I don't forget things I have to do. We are very untidy and have a lot of clutter, which needs to be worked on. I'm getting into a good habit of getting everything ready the night before, this is Flylady's habit of the month, but I have to do this or I would have a nervous breakdown in the mornings.

autumnlights12 · 10/09/2012 14:35

I don't write lists. I can see this is where I am going wrong.

OhDearNigel · 10/09/2012 15:15

It has made a lot of difference in our house :) i revisit it regularly

Initial post was a just a joke. I could be better organised but am not too bad really - will be going through original thread again for sure, as even the scariest of the posters on there Xenia, MarriedInWhite have doubtless got some fine ideas I could learn from. For the record I am a Labour Party member. I do come from the moon, though. HTH.
