It's comfy.

I don't geddit. Why does it matter what I wear on my feet, for a start? I don't think I look any sillier in my socks 'n' sandals than I do in my giant ugg-a-like thingies. Or any more foolish than girls falling off stratospheric heels they can't walk in.

Is it because it's scruffy? Or because it's reminiscent of middle aged chaps on holidays?

EXPLAIN PLEASE.

It's just horrible.

CrunchyFrog · 05/09/2012 15:24

LMAO NotAnAxeMurderer

So I could be single-handedly responsible for the decline in Standards in my locality, purely with my choice in footwear? That is worth thinking about.

I suppose I could also be affecting young, impressionable people, who may begin to think it's acceptable behaviour. It could lead to comfort over style WAR!!!!! Gosh.

Grin

But Ghost, WHY?

Why is it more horrible than aforementioned vertiginous heels, or the ubiquitous uncomfortable looking ballet thingies All The Mums wear?

Because grubby socks are never an attractive site, and socks exposed to the elements and not protected by shoes will always end up grubby. What happens if you get caught in a shower of rain, walk through a puddle or otherwise get your feet wet? In shoes, your socks will be protected from getting wet. Bare feet in sandals will shed water and dry off quickly. Wet socks in sandals will squelch round for ages whilst your feet turn into wrinkly white skin-shedding monstrosities. Nothing wrong with that, huh? Wink

TheBigJessie · 05/09/2012 15:27

What you should also consider is that the kind of people who look at people feet to check for socks are the kind of people who will make a thread on MN in S&B about whether people have had pedicures, and and how sickening it was to see bare feet that weren't modeltastic. Feet that looked as if they might have walked somewhere.

It's kinder to these poor souls for us to wear socks, so that we don't shock them by not having painted toenails one day.

GhostShip · 05/09/2012 15:30

crunchy

I like the look of nice heels and nice ballet shoes.
I like the look of nice sandals too. But not with socks. It just horrid

CrunchyFrog · 05/09/2012 15:35

Thistle I live in NI, rain happens. I also go on the beach a lot. What I do is take the socks off, temporarily.

ghost that's OK then, my sandals are not a bit nice. Grin

bigjessie I have lovely feet. Like a lovely, flat footed hobbit. Not hairy yet, I suspect that joy awaits me in middle age. I have never had a pedicure, because why would you?

My ex wears socks with sandals as he has no feeling in his feet. Otherwise the sandals may rub sores in his skin.

My husband wears socks with sandals which I can just about cope with unless he is wearing shorts too.

Thistledew · 05/09/2012 15:50

Barefoot in sandals means they can be kicked off with gay abandon to frolic barefoot in a grassy meadow, or on the beach, or to dabble in a stream. Socks in sandals is the equivalent of first-night bad sex where neither of you manages to find an unobtrusive way to take your socks off, and you are left there naked, apart from your socks, which are mismatched on your part and holed on his. You then have to break off from the 'can't keep your hands off each other passionate embracing' to sheepishly divest yourself of said items.

If you can't imagine James Bond or Audrey Hepburn doing it, then don't expect it to be ok.

CogitoErgoSometimes · 05/09/2012 15:53

Sandals with socks is like wearing a jumper under your bikini.....

crashdollGOLD · 05/09/2012 15:59

I commit the ultimate fashion crime and wear crocs with socks! Most shoes rub blisters on me. It's a nightmare. I don't care what people think anymore.

LadyBeagleEyes · 05/09/2012 15:59

It's just wrong.
I've no idea why it's wrong but it is.
I hate socks with a passion anyway, and will only wear them under boots or wellies when it's cold outside.
Nasty, nasty things they are.

CaliforniaLeaving · 05/09/2012 16:47

Theas18 Birkies and funky socks- fine by me!

But then again i favour funky hand knit socks...

LOL embrace the inner hippy.
I wear Birks and nubby socks in winter, usually when I'm in a rush to get out the door for school run and the Birks are so fast to slip on. Grin
But in summer when my legs are showing, no way will I do socks and sandals.

lilachair · 05/09/2012 16:51

It. Just. Is.

HTH Grin

KenLeeeeeee · 05/09/2012 17:01

It's not as bad as crocs. They truly are the work of the devil.

hugoagogo · 05/09/2012 17:03

YANBU I never wear sandals, (because of the no socks rule, I think it's pretty gross to wear shoes or sandals without socks, but I appreciate I am in the minority.) If I did it would be with socks-if they are stripey- so much the better.

If you can't imagine James Bond or Audrey Hepburn doing it, then don't expect it to be ok.

This is an extremely tough rule of thumb sartorially; too tough for me anyway. Grin

TheBigJessie · 05/09/2012 18:30

Envy I have Odd Toes. I'd never make it as a foot model!

TheBigJessie · 05/09/2012 18:35

Cogito no, no, no. Wearing socks is like having a lovely soft cotton vest beneath that really itchy jumper that looks so good on you and keeps you warm at the bus stop in midwinter.

Socks! Socks! Socks forever!

OutragedAtThePriceOfFreddos · 05/09/2012 19:25

I looks ugly. You can see that right?

CrunchyFrog · 05/09/2012 20:30

Nope. Just looks like feet to me!

OP posts:
Lolwhut · 05/09/2012 22:27

I would wear sock with sandles all the time if I could. Unfortunately they just look too ugly. Sad

hellymelly · 05/09/2012 22:33

I am with you crunchyfrog. I have lovely Swedish wooden clog sandals, and they look lovely with chunky socks. Perfect September inbetweeny wear (unless it is wet, wet socks are not comfy). Socks and sandals are fab.

Nanny0gg · 05/09/2012 23:42

Stripey socks.

apostropheuse · 06/09/2012 00:00

I'd rather have socks with sandals than blisters with sandals.

But maybe that's just me being a woos
