To warn you not to buy an iCandy? DANGEROUS wheels...

Posted last week and didn't get much traffic but just want to warn others really.

We bought an iCandy Cherry last year and have had no end of problems and are appalled by their customer service (or total lack of). Axle warped after 9 months, this was replaced and we had to buy new wheels to go with the new axle. Roll on two months and these wheels just FALL OFF. It is so DANGEROUS, it's ridiculous, especially when this happens when you're crossing the road.

The shop I bought the pram from are trying to be helpful but can't supply replacement, replacement wheels as iCandy have none in stock. They MIGHT be manufactured by the end of October - and who knows if they'll be any better?

iCandy themselves have not responded to messages I have left them, both in the UK and the US (we've just moved). My husband has contacted the US iCandy press office and they promised to call him back but guess what? Didn't bother.

So - I've been forced to buy a whole new pram and all the iCandy attachments, the carrycot, the footmuff etc are incompatible with every other brand. My DD is 11 months old and we've had maximum 10 months use out of this. And it's meant to have a two year guarantee.

I've posted a review on here but please don't buy this if you are thinking of a new pram.

None of these Quinny and iCandy shit were around when dd was born, and if they were i must have conpletely missed then. I'm still using my trusty Graco Quattro Tour deluxe from 5 years ago. I'm sure it would survive ww3 and the apocalypse.

ThePetiteMummy · 04/09/2012 23:20

Sorry you've had such a bad time op, and what dreadful customer service! However, just wanted to offer an alternative view. We bought an iCandy cherry 2 years ago, for dd1, and never had any problems with it. Now being used for dd2 and going strong. I would say it's had reasonably heavy use too, and we've been really happy with it. Hope you get things sorted with yours.

1sassylassy · 04/09/2012 23:22

Have you tried contacting them through twittertwitter.com/iCandyWorld,find most companies respond when tweeted.

crackcrackcrak · 04/09/2012 23:24

Sounds v annoying. I wouldn't have out up with buying a new pram though I would have insisted it was replaced. Get angrier! My buzz had huge faults out of guarantee and Mothercare tried to fob me off -I stood my ground with Quinny and they replaced it - dint take no for an answer!

ivesufferedenoughfools · 04/09/2012 23:27

I bet they would! The rest of my NCT group bought Bugaboos and I wish I had too!

Who ever heard of a Bugaboo having problems... dodgy wheels, dodgy brakes

My iCandy Apple is on it's 4th year, second child and has been utterly hassle free.

My Bugaboo Bee needed bits added to the brakes so they actually worked and stopped rolling my pfb into the road.

ivesufferedenoughfools · 04/09/2012 23:33

So - the US press office have just called my husband back and are going to call again first thing. They've said that they'll have to do something as it's been repaired once already. Which is lots more than pathetic iCandy UK have done. They even told the assistant in the shop we bought it from that we'd invalidated the warranty by going overseas. Except that we bought an iCandy branded bag made especially so you can fly the bloody thing around... I have never dealt with such an incompetent brand. In the US now and they're a rarity here. There's a reason for that I feel... and not just because they're a British brand.

Well I hope iCandy US are going to offer a refund and/or pay for the new one.

Sorry to hear others have had Bugaboo problems. I feel housebound at the moment!

My second comment was aimed at Namechangegalore btw.

I have the icandy peach and it is the best system i have ever had, i went through 12 several different ones with DS to end up with the jane nomad which was great, but sold it years before DD arrived.
DH didn't want me going through buggies at that rate again so i did my research and 100% kept coming back to the icandy.
It has been great on off road walks and is a dream to use, i love it!
Sorry you have had a bad experience op, customer service in the US is usually a lot better in general than the UK so fingers crossed!

bochead · 05/09/2012 04:45

If the pushchair was purchased in the UK it's time to demand a full refund - it's not fit for purpose. Trading standards at your council would help.

If purchased in the US then deal direct.

AmethystMoon · 05/09/2012 04:50

I've got a third hand iCandy cherry and have to say it has been great so far...... But your situation sounds like a nightmare! I really hope you get it sorted soon.

laughinglemons · 05/09/2012 04:58

sorry to hear this - my DD is 4.5 weeks (hence I am up at 4.57am... :))
we have an Uppa Baby Vista which is excellent so far.

enteramusingnamehere · 05/09/2012 05:40

LOVE my iCandy peach, never had any problems, one of the best on the market. But saying that you'll always get a dodgy batch in production at any company...

Mich9966 · 04/12/2012 17:18

Like OTTMummA I went for Jane too. Researched Which? and went for the all terrain Best Buy Jane Trider. Three of my friends went for Icandy and all have had problems with the wheels or handles. My Trider has been brilliant, would certainly recommend.

DIYapprentice · 04/12/2012 17:22

I have the iCandy Apple and I loved it! Saw me through two boys. Actually, I'm only looking to get rid of it now as DS2 is 3 years old (when I finally get around to it.....)

Kayano · 04/12/2012 17:22

My iCandy Strawberry is the best thing that I own lol

I love it!

Bit if an OTT reaction to your one dodgy pushchair
They are hardly dangerous

rogersmellyonthetelly · 04/12/2012 17:23

Like any product, pushchairs develop faults from time to time, it's inevitable. What you want to happen in this situation is that you get a) a loan pram immediately so you don't have to be inconvenienced. B) the fault to be fixed or the item replaced as soon as possible.
I candy customer service is hit and miss at best from what I have heard, mamas and papas is utter shite, bugaboo are sometimes helpful, sometimes not.

GoldenHandshake · 04/12/2012 17:24

I had an iCandy for DD, lasted me over three years with no problems except one flat tyre when I ran over a drawing pin and had to replace the inner tube (which isnt really anyones fault but mine). It was the iCandy apple and I loved it. Still in almost pristine condition in the loft, and I fully intend on usign it for yet to be conceived DC2.

OP you need tostand your ground and demand a replacement, if the axle buckled then the pram is faulty.

Stinkyminkymoo · 04/12/2012 17:30

I too have heard bad things about both the icandy & bugaboo.

I went for the Jane trider and think it is beyond brilliant and I love it!

CelstialNavigation · 04/12/2012 17:42

This thread is 3 months old so OP has probably sorted it by now.

FromHereToNextTuesday · 04/12/2012 17:52

The wheels fell off mine too!! Same model! 2nd hand but still...

Flisspaps · 04/12/2012 17:55

You'd hope so, wouldn't you Celestial Grin

CelstialNavigation · 04/12/2012 18:29

Well if it was Yodel customer service, she'd still be on hold...
