I agree with him a lot of the time but i almost wished i didnt because he is just so smug and self absorbed. I can handle twenty minutes of him at most before I need a rest. He is at his absolute worst during mystery hour when he tries to answer every question himself before allowing anyone else on. Just me?

No, me too. I used to download his podcast every day but I've now unsubscribed - I needed a break! That said, I think it's great he doesn't go with the glow & almost always has a completely different viewpoint from the mainstream media - so I'm still a fan.

Btw when I rang mystery hour he answered my question too haa

He has his good points. I love how he exposes the lazy journalism that seems to dominate the mainstream media. Listening to him take Brian Coleman (fire brigade chairman) apart was a joy. Just tons it down a bit James

Mystery Hour is the only time in the week I switch over to something else.

Generally, I think his show is streets ahead of the others. (Especially Vanessa Feltz on BBC London. It's like listening to a thesaurus and I cringe at the nudge nudge wink wink snogging references.) I like the way he digs deep into the moral/ethical/philosophical aspect of a current news story.

I agree with his politics, too, which helps.

Saltycopporn · 04/09/2012 14:50

We do sometimes have a turbulant relationship..... i have even been known to twiddle with his dial ... but i always turn it back... just to see if he will come round to my way of thinking ;)

No, I think he's an arrogant cunt too.

The times he argues a point I agree with don't make up for all the times he's an arrogant cunt.

I did like the time he was slagging off Frank Lampard about a sob story Lampard's former wife had spilled to a gossip journalist in a very drunken moment in a club and Lampard phoned in to give the real version.

O'Brien wasn't able to use his usual trick of suggesting his victim didn't know all the facts. I also suspected he was giving him more time than the average sap who phones in because he was in awe of Fat Frank and his lawyers and the legions of Chelsea fans who can be a bit unreasonable when people voice disapproval of their players.

You'd think O'Brien would know how you go about getting juicy gossip what with having been a celebrity journalist in a former life.

Make that misleading cunt, too.

Oh I'm glad I'm not alone. You know the music that builds to a crescendo before the news? I find the works "you're a prick" fit into the last three notes if anyone wants to join in!

And he's not alone in inventing a feature purely so he can hog all the limelight.

That ever-more desperate hipster Robert Elms did that on a feature called Up My Back Passage or something like that for a phone-in about local knowledge where he droned over the callers.

He clearly used to make stuff up and I was always tempted to spoof it before thinking: 'just turn the radio off and use the time to attend to the u-bend.'

His 'yuk, yuk, yuk' laugh always sounded like he was trying to retch up a fur ball, too.

Does anyone know if he's dead yet? I feel there's a grave somewhere that I'm longing to dance on.
