Nosey ... but also thought that my gym was reasonably competitive until today when a friend told me that she often gets emails / flyers quoting much cheaper prices.

I pay £65 p/m (this is with a corporate discount, they normally charge £70 but work gets me a fiver off). This includes all classes.

AIBRO? (Am I being ripped off?) Grin

Only £16! It's an off peak membership which means I can't use the gym between 5-9pm Monday to Friday, but I can go to any classes during this time

Chandon · 03/09/2012 19:45

Ghostship, cancellations should always be by letter, write the date on it. (not e-mail, a proper old fashioned letter), keep certificate of posting and a copy.

(sorry, used to be a lawyer).

then, if she does not bother to get back to you, it is not your problem, and the cancellation period starts from the date of your letter.

GhostShip · 03/09/2012 19:53

Chandon, that's exactly what I did. But because it's a contracted one that was supposed to last a year (pay monthly) I don't think ive got a leg to stand on.

Apparently I had to wait for her permission to cancel. I explained to her in my letter that my ex was violent and I was advised not to be near him, but still no reply from her.

terrywoganstrousers · 03/09/2012 19:55

£150 per month for three of us at our health club/spa. When DC2 born will be £175. But i'll be able to use the creche for free and classes etc are included. DD has swimming lessons there, its a nice club with lovely pool etc.
The other local gyms don't allow children to the same extent and the council pool/gym is horrendously grotty. Plus waiting lists for swimming lessons and big groups as opposed to lessons with three or four children in a class.

EllenParsons · 03/09/2012 20:11

I pay £22.50 per month for mine inc gym, pool, classes - bargain compared to what a lot of you are paying but this is a public one in the north.

I am moving next week and will be in London between Stoke Newington and Highbury. Anyone know if the Clissold Leisure Centre is any good, or the Highbury Aquaterra Centre? They will be the nearest to me and I am considering those as they are cheaper than Virgin Active.

LadyKooKoo · 03/09/2012 20:15

£17.99 a month. It's 24 hour and includes all classes. There is no pool but I hate swimming so not an issue for me. I normally go before DD and DH are up (about 5am). It's a PureGym.

crackcrackcrak · 03/09/2012 20:27

Oo I did not know the virgin child membership covers crèche hours!!! Thanks Grin

Claireabella1 · 03/09/2012 20:34

I pay £16.99 p/m no pool or crèche in Hampshire.

Anonymumous · 03/09/2012 21:31

I just paid £276 for 14 months - I got three months free, plus £20 off, plus an extra 25% off because my children have swimming lessons there. For that I get unlimited pool and gym time, and free classes at any one of 76 centres across the country. Still have to pay £2.50 an hour for the creche facilities though. Look up EveryoneActive if you're interested!

emsyj · 03/09/2012 21:35

I pay £28 a month for council gym/classes/swimming - and I go about once a month to take DD swimming, so not terribly good value...

I used to pay £80 a month in London, but it was worth it for the lovely free towels, clean facilities, steam room, hydrobath etc... There are no equivalent gyms around here (NW) and I'm gutted, I would gladly pay £100pcm for a really really posh lovely gym with spa facilities.

Leena49 · 04/09/2012 03:21

£26 per month for British military fitness classes. I'm getting fit as a butchers dog now!

jasmine31 · 04/09/2012 05:45

£58 a month for peak membership-gym/classes/pool plus access to most, but not all other clubs in the chain.

OutragedAtThePriceOfFreddos · 04/09/2012 07:48

£60 for an off peak membership at a fancy gym. I'd prefer to find one cheaper but they are all miles away whereas this one is very local, which makes it easier to actually go.

salemsparklys · 04/09/2012 11:29

£28 with use of all gym/classes/pools of that council

LAlady · 04/09/2012 11:36

£83 a month. Includes gym (own tvs on equipment) classes (really extensive timetable), swimming etc. Part of a country club but importantly includes parking. I belonged to a cheaper gym in town but paid a lot for parking.

It is a lot but I use it a lot, so it works out cost effective. Plus it is a very sociable venue.

Ha ha, me too. I pay £30 corporate rate and my OH pays £26 too.

I used to pay £30 a month to a gym, visit occasionally and delude myself into thinking I'm fit cos I managed 10 mins on a treadmill, 5 mins on the rowing machine before spending 40 minutes in the sauna!

Now having an ex-forces instructor beast me several times a week, i know I'm fit! Plus it's way more sociable than a gym which I've always found quite elitist and snobby. Nothing like doing pressups in the mud and running up & down hills to help you make friends.

MrJasc · 04/09/2012 13:02

£19 a month membership, then way too much on personal trainers.

MonkeyRisotto · 04/09/2012 14:36

Just had a look, and thank god there's none near me, I've got an excuse!!

Surely there's not much point saying how much you pay, unless you say whereabouts you are? A Gym in Kensington is going to be significantly more than one in Kettering.

Nothing
I do a Davina DVD 25 minute workout everyday at home and that seems to be doing the trick.

JustTheRightAmountOfWrong · 04/09/2012 16:38

£100 a month. Just for me. Expensive but it's a spa type gym with an excellent chlorine free pool and v good equipment. I do use it a lot; I'm there 4-5 times a week and sometimes at weekends so to me its worth it.

It's also based in the City (London) which obviously pushes the price right up. I think City based Virgin gyms are in the region of £75 per month.

confusedpixie · 04/09/2012 17:17

£35-45 is what I've been quoted for a couple of private ones and two nearby local authority run ones but haven't joined yet as I am lazy.

Ragwort · 04/09/2012 17:20

£35 a month, lots of classes but no swimming pool. Good value as I try to go every day Grin.

MadameOvary · 04/09/2012 17:28

I initially joined the council one but the classes were either on at the wrong time/too far away/undersubscribed. so now i pay £88 a month for myself and DD. It has brilliant kid's facilities and indoor and outdoor pool, sauna, steam room and huge gym. Getting twitchy as DD has been ill and not been able to go.
