Just wondering???

I love Trace Adkins after seeing him on Celebrity Apprentice USA.

LovelyMarchHare · 03/09/2012 18:59

I like Dwight Yoakham too. There was an album cover of him in a stetson (unsurprisingly ....) and I thought he was gorgeous. He isn't especially so in reality. But I love his voice.

ComposHat · 03/09/2012 19:28

English Ah a convert! Fabulous!

I'd recomend both American Water and the Natural Bridge as being pretty faultless!

MammyToMany · 03/09/2012 19:37

I do my housework to Dolly Parton singing Harper Valley Pta Blush

Napdamnyou · 03/09/2012 20:09

Did you know that if you listen to country records backwards, you get your job and your house and your no-good lover back.

Dolly's acoustic album is on constantly here while DH is at work. I get shivers listening to 'I Am Ready'. I also love her version of Cash On The Barrelhead.

Uncut magazine used to do some good free cover mounted CDs with alt country stuff on, that was how I discovered the Hansom Family.

floradix · 03/09/2012 20:12

God, that Gram Parsons (with Emmy-Lou Harris) is fantastic!

I love country music.

wigglesrock · 03/09/2012 20:18

Country music is my guilty passion - especially a bit of Crystal Gayle but Dolly is my true soulmate.

nicki1978 · 03/09/2012 20:22

I love to listen to either country or classical music on way home, i find it relaxs me particularly after a stressful busy day. Xx

UnexpectedItemInShaggingArea · 03/09/2012 20:26

LovelyMarchHare - he is less than gorgeous, but I do love that album.

Trivia - he was in the opening scene of 'Wedding Crashers' with Rebecca deMornay.

FellatioNelson · 03/09/2012 20:26

Country music can be the BEST but you do have to know who to avoid. I have had a secret country habit since I was really quite young - way before it was remotely trendy, and I'm 46 now. I can finally come out. Grin I have a secret Randy Travis habit too, but I lean more towards alt country and bluegrass and Americana folk/country stuff.

PMSL at 'hat acts'. Grin

WelshMaenad · 03/09/2012 20:29

YANBU. I loves me a bit of country.

Can I recommend Lady Antebellum too?

FellatioNelson · 03/09/2012 20:30

Oh yes, Dwight Yoakham is fab. I particularly love his duet with Sheryl Crow

WelshMaenad · 03/09/2012 20:39

Also, if you're into a folky vibe also and want something to melt to, I'd like to introduce Blind Pilot:

Shoshe · 03/09/2012 20:40

Try

If you are a Single Mum, get the tissues ready at Brad Paisley

Napdamnyou · 03/09/2012 20:42

Who likes Steve Earle? Billy Austin always has me in bits.

FellatioNelson · 03/09/2012 20:42

Although rather embarrassingly Dwight would appear to be wearing a hat. Hmm

And this is one of my favourite songs EVERRRRRR.

rockinastocking · 03/09/2012 20:44

Try Josh T Pearson.

Beautiful, depressing genius.

FellatioNelson · 03/09/2012 20:48

I love dolly (who in the world doesn't?) but I really am left cold by stuff like Lady Antebellum. It's too MOR and crossover poppy for me. Too polished. I love the Dixie Chicks with a passion though, even though some may consider them poppy, it's a different vibe altogether.

evilgiraffe · 03/09/2012 20:49

Country music is fab. I don't get the hate of Garth Brooks, though?

Seasick Steve deserves a mention too, he's great :)

WelshMaenad · 03/09/2012 20:52

Nelson, have you heard the stuff the Dixie Chick sisters have recorded as Courtyard Hounds? LUSH.

FellatioNelson · 03/09/2012 20:52

Country spans so many subgenres though it's quite hard to pin down. To just say you like country means nothing really, it's like saying you like rock! I listen to stuff like the Felice Brothers but I don't think many people who say they are Country fans would even consider them to be country music.

FellatioNelson · 03/09/2012 20:56

That is lovely evil I might download it, thanks.

FellatioNelson · 03/09/2012 21:02

Yes, the Gram Parsons and ELH link is just beautiful. That is my kind of music summed up really, if I were forced to narrow it down.

squeakytoy · 03/09/2012 21:12

I was at the front when Brad Paisley played at Shepherds Bush in London a couple of years ago.. I touched him... he was fabulous..

Brad

One of my favourite songs of his is Whiskey Lullaby with Alison Kraus..

even the video makes me tear up..

Mibby · 03/09/2012 21:25

Yanbu at all! Brad Paisley, Kenny Chesney, Alan Jackson and Kenny are often on her, DD s starting her musical education early :)
