My landlady just knocked on the for to say hello (some workmen ar round tree pruning or something in the garden and she likes to check all is ok) and she hasn't seen me sic having or baby I weeks ago. I am wearing a night dress and cardigan both with baby sick on them ad fluff bed socks and slippers. Har s greasy and haven't even cleaned teeth. This is because ds in n the kid of mood where he will only be carried by me and screams when put down. Seriously I ave tried several times but he cries so am just letting him snooze on me. Should I have things mor together by now?!! Is this normal?

One week ago? I didn't get dressed for about a fortnight with dc1.

Nanny0gg · 03/09/2012 11:13

Very normal!

Do you have anyone who can help? Take the baby off you so's you can have a relaxing bath or shower? Bring you cups of tea?

DawnOfTheDee · 03/09/2012 11:13

I'm just about dressed now but i still haven't brushed my hair. DD is 7mo. Grin

Don't worry about it - it's fine!

SaskiaRembrandtWasFramed · 03/09/2012 11:15

Yes, that sounds perfectly normal.

HeadfirstOverTheHighJump · 03/09/2012 11:17

Meh, my youngest is 4 (years!) and I'm only just getting my shit together Grin

Do you have any neighbours or friends/family that would enjoy having a baby cuddle while you have a bath?

loveulotslikejellytots · 03/09/2012 11:23

I dont have kids and look like this a lot of the time. Minus the sick of course. I was in the front garden yesterday morning for about 15 minutes, spoke to various neighbours etc. Only when I went back inside and passed a mirror did I realise I hadn't brushed my hair, had make up streaked across my face, an old greying white vest with a black bra underneath and a pair of DH's shorts with massive holes in the back.

I was the female version of Jim Royale!

Sorry I haven't got practical advice for you, but I thought it might cheer you up!

MamaBear17 · 03/09/2012 11:33

Normal normal normal! I opened the door to the HV with no top on and a baby on the boob once. Cant be helped! x

Kayano · 03/09/2012 11:36

Totally normal.

My neighbour asked me when the baby was due... As I was carrying dd Uni the house

DH was like Hmm 'this baby?'

WilsonFrickett · 03/09/2012 11:37

Soooo normal I almost didn't reply! Beyond normal! As normal as a normal thing with a special reason to be normal! Grin

arthurfowlersallotment · 03/09/2012 11:40

OP I didn't open the door for two weeks. :o
So normal.
Oh and congratulations

CaliforniaLeaving · 03/09/2012 17:24

Congratulations on the new baby. Grin
She should be amazed you opened the door seeing you had a baby last week.
She should have offered to make you a cuppa and watch the kids while you lounge in the bath.

PenelopeChipShop · 03/09/2012 17:34

Omg typo made post totally innaccurate. He is 9 weeks! sorry. Hard to type when BFing which is only chance to go on iPad!

MyLastDuchess · 03/09/2012 18:07

At 9 weeks I would say it's even more normal than at 1 week! Particularly for breastfed babies who tend to wake up more often and of course take longer to feed. You've used up your sleep reserves by that stage and are probably shattered.

My son was a terror until he was about 6 months old, had to be held ALL the time and rarely slept. Fitting a shower in was a major juggling act. If I knocked on the door at 9 weeks and the new mum looked like she'd been dragged through a hedge backwards I'd think: all normal here then Smile

MrsKeithRichards · 03/09/2012 18:46

I know it's normal but I know personally I feel much better if I get dressed and wash my face of a day!

RightBuggerforGOLD · 03/09/2012 18:57

Normal! I have an 8 week old and only get anything done when dh holds the baby and sometimes not even then.

Mellower · 03/09/2012 19:00

Normal. I was out of the hospital 4 hours are DC birth but that didn't mean I was 100% okay. I had a tear and bad bad piles, sorry if TMI but ouch!!

I didn't leave the house for at least a week maybe even 2.

MissPants · 03/09/2012 19:01

DS2 is 16 weeks and I noticed a wee while ago that I hadn't brushed my hair in 6 weeks... I've been literally scraping it into a ponytail with my hands every morning. YANBU Grin

Mellower · 03/09/2012 19:02

Oh 9 weeks, erm... yeah I was getting dressed by then but you know each to their own, I wasn't breastfeeding and had another child to take to Nursery. So I had to get dressed. Sadly. Grin

If your fine about it then - It's fine.

FiveOrangeFlowers · 03/09/2012 19:02

Years ago (oldie here Smile), mums and babies stayed in hospital for a week or more after birth and we were in our nighties and slippers all day. It was lovely.

I'm sure your landlady wouldn't have expected you to be up and about after only a week.

Congratulations and take it easy.

TheBigJessie · 03/09/2012 19:16

Totally, totally, totally normal.

Thank you! I hasten to add I am usually dressed by 11 am but sometimes we still get the kind of day where it just isn't possible. Doesn't help that there is so much to do around the house as my DH is starting to feel like things are going back to normal a bit so has stopped doing so much! I would like to clear up but I only ever have one hand free. Oh well at least am not alone!
