The gravy covered boon thread inspired this! Grin

I was in Ikea once in the cafe and a lady loaded a tray with food for her and her DCs and (I presume DH.) she turned away with the tray loaded with food and promptly tripped over one of her very young DCs, the tray flew out of hands and the plates, drinks, everything shattered and left such a mess. Crowded restaurant and everyone stopped talking and stared! Poor woman!

Has anyone else ever cringed on another's behalf?

I went out to collect my class from the yard one morning and fell (slid) down the three icy steps to the playground - in front of the whole school and their parents. Not my finest hour. It was mentioned in the speech the head gave when I left.

One of the children told me later that they had been laughing and wanted me to explain why his mum had told him to shush.

Another pupil told me one morning on the way to assembly that I had 'a big bottom'. Didn't upset me but his mum was mortified when I had to explain why I kept laughing when I looked at her son!

My best friends mum keeps chickens and has a couple of peacocks. They live on the coast in a popular tourist place and everyday people lean over the wall of the cottage to admire the birds.

Last summer one particular family were gawping when the daughter aged about 12-14 shouted "look at the penguin".

Cue lots of Hmm looks and stifled laughter

Oh dear not the right type of thread to be reading on a silent train full of people! My stomach hurts from trying to laugh silently! Thanks for the laughs, I needed it this early in the morning!

Oldanglias story... 'We all turned to look in horror at a beautiful embroidered pillow' cracked me up!

NCForNow's 'I FELL' almost sent me into labour, I swear.

I have way too many of these. The one which springs to mind is where I was on a train, a rather old fashioned train, going back to university. It was very late, not many people around in my carriage. We got to my stop and I made my way to the doors, massive rucksack on my back, another slung accross one shoulder. I looked for the doorhandle. There was none. I started to feel a bit panicky. I thought frantically and realised it was one of those doors you have to open using the handle on the outside. The window. That was the key. I dragged the window down with all my might, although it got a bit stuck three quarters of the way down. I flung out an arm and waggled my hand fruitlessly in the direction of where I imagined the handle to be. Nothing. Really panicking now. I stuck my head out a bit, saw the handle and went for it again. My arm was just too short thanks to the bastard stuck window. With all my might, I heaved myself, and my heafty luggage up until I was dangling by the armpit, feet waggling frantically in the air. One last grab and I got the handle and yanked it up. In my panic, I hadn't really thought it through. The door flew open under the combined weight of me and my luggage, taking me with it. I was still holding onto the handle. I screamed. The door described a perfect arc, and my face described perfect terror. We slammed together into the side of the train, and I finally let go, sliding defeatedly down onto the platform in a studenty, rucksacky heap.

I heard the laughter of the other passengers, but I didn't look. I scuttled to the bus stop and didn't dare look back.
