in thinking Gap shouldn't just be photoshopping pictures to change the colour of jumpers?

Rather than actually photographing each item individually...

if you look closely here you can see quite a few of them are identical pictures with just the colour of the jumper changed... the first example is on the 4th row, model with flat cap on, identical to the photo on the next row down, also with flat cap on.

Ok so it's a trivial thing... but surely photoshopping the actual clothes on the models isn't going to be very accurate depiction?

Maybe I've got too much time on my hands :o

There's no maybe about it. Grin

goingtoofast · 31/08/2012 11:49

It's really common.

DD once wore a red dress at a photoshoot - they changed it the red to blue in the catalogue!

NameChangeGalore · 31/08/2012 11:53

The black and Pink jumpers have been photoshopped too, in the same style. It's quite amusing clicking between the two.

headfairy · 31/08/2012 11:55

No wonder when I order things online they never quite look how I expected them to. Call me a luddite but I hate shopping for clothes online for that very reason. You have no idea what you're actually getting, and usually you're paying around £5 for them to deliver clothes that look completely different to the ones on the website!

NameChange I can't even look at the jumpers now because all I can see is the same inane grin repeated.

It is common practice, saves money! When in doubt, goto the store to see the real colours or take the risk and buy (as long as you can send it back)

goingtoofast · 31/08/2012 12:16

Works for me, I typed 'lands end squall parka' into www.debenhams.com

TheBigJessie · 31/08/2012 12:21

Well, Gap gets really bad rating in the Good Shopping Guide, so it doesn't surprise me!

What? That there? That's not a Gap label, honest.

HmmThinkingAboutIt · 31/08/2012 12:26

With respect, even if they photographed the jumper you aren't going to get the exact colour on the website anyway.

Colour can be seriously affected the lighting when taking the photograph. And then by the colour profile of the file format of the photograph. And then its uploaded to the web and displayed on a variety of different monitors all with different colour profiles (eg macs have brighter colours compared to PCs which is part of the reason that why traditionally designers used macs over PCs before apple got popular and trendy). And if it a printed catalogue you'd get similar problems with the type of paper and the way it holds ink affecting the actual colour you get. Even if you have pantone referenced colours they still appear differently on screen or on different papers or materials.

So YABU. You are never going to get an exact colour of a jumper from any representation of it. So using photoshop isn't going to make any difference. It is impossible to ever get an exact match.

ICBINEG · 31/08/2012 12:28

Is it only that they took the colour out to get a black version of something? I mean black is mostly just ...erm..black so I'm thinking that wouldn't be too awful...

NameChangeGalore · 31/08/2012 12:47

That debenhams link is hilarious! How many colours? The little girl is cute though.

headfairy · 31/08/2012 13:26
