to feel 'ripped off' by boots for my free baby change bag?

Well I already have one of the boots free baby changing bags which I got when I had ds1 it a fab bag but is getting a bit tatty around the edges, so applied to boots for a voucher to get one for ds2 who is now 1 week and 1 day old, thinking I will use the new one for them both and the old one for when ds1 goes to nursery or with my family somewhere on his own.

Well went to boots today and got the new one, had to buy nappies which I obviously need and were only £1 dearer than where I normally get them. Opened the box all excited (yes I am sad) only to dicover its half the size of my old one not only that it only has 1 side pocket for bottles etc. It has a better thicker change matt but this takes up loads of room in the smaller bag and does not fold nicely into a little bag like my old one and it only has plastic bits to hold and adjust the sholder strap my old one was metal.

Aibu to feel very disapointed and 'ripped off'

Ripped off?

On something you have had for free?

gordyslovesheep · 30/08/2012 20:34

YABU you could always buy one exactly like you want

Chubfuddler · 30/08/2012 20:35

Ripped off? Really?

CaliforniaLeaving · 30/08/2012 20:36

No not if it was free.
Take the changing pad from he old one and put it in the new one, and presto chango, you have more room in the new one.
I loved my free baby bags I got from the hospital, mine was insulated, like the soft lunch boxes and was a cube, had elastic bottle holders inside and pockets on the outside as well as a bottle pocket on each side. I liked it so much rthat once it was worn out I found one in the local charity shop (un used) and paid money for it.

Sirzy · 30/08/2012 20:37

It was free, if you want to be picky then go and buy one

DoingTheBestICan · 30/08/2012 20:38

If I were you I would take it back and demand your money back,oh but wait a sec you didn't actually pay for it did you?

Or you could do what pp says and swap the mats over.

jaggythistle · 30/08/2012 20:44

i like the new one. the outer pockets are more secure and i like the outside insulated one for a toddler drink, i don't need bottle storage.

the mat is too thick though so i have gone to using the old one!

i have zero interest in bags so am quite happy to have a free practical thing. fair enough you have to buy nappies, but a newborn will poop through those in a few days if they're like mine!

so yabu.

susiegrapevine · 30/08/2012 20:51

Ok well perhaps I just feel more disapointed than ripped off and my old one has 2 holders for bottles tho I don't use bottles either I use 1 for toddler drink and 1 for suncream. But now I will have to use my old one for both of them and the new one for nursery as there is no way I can fit all there stuff in the new one. Plus changing bags are soooo expensive for what they are so I did try to look for a cheap shoulder bag that's unisex so dh can use it but I could not find one big enough. Oh well.

good grief, you poor thing

doublecakeplease · 30/08/2012 20:57

Could you check Ebay / freecycle / ask on here if anyone has a good condition old style one to sell / swap you?

OhYouGreatGreatBritain · 30/08/2012 20:59

I found a ruck sack worked.

CoolaSchmoola · 30/08/2012 21:03

They are crap - mine has never left the house. But YABU to be bothered about it because it was free!!!

There are loads of cheap changing bags out there - try Amazon, Tesco etc.

But to feel "ripped off" over something you got for nowt is just daft.

Alibabaandthe40nappies · 30/08/2012 21:03

My changing bag was v.pricy, but the lining zips out taking out all the pockets, zip bits, clips and so on - and I'm now left with a beautiful leather weekend bag which I will use for years.

YABU to moan about something free.

Groovee · 30/08/2012 21:07

I used a normal rucksack

timtam23 · 30/08/2012 21:09

Hi, if you want the old style Boots bag you can have mine for the cost of postage (might be £2.20 but would have to check), I got it 4 yrs ago for DS1 but to be honest I preferred my rucksack so it's barely been used. I just dug it out of the cupboard to look at it & it's a bit dusty but otherwise fine. If you want it let me know (CAT/PM me)
It has no change mat any more as that's the one thing we did use loads

Enfyshedd · 30/08/2012 21:49

I was using my free Boots changing bag as a handbag - had it 2 months, it got caught under a folddown seat on the bus and the strap came out of the side. Not too bothered as it was free with the voucher, but considering they advertise them in store for £30.63(!!!), I pity the person who actually might pay money for one.

SDTGisAnEvilWolefGenius · 30/08/2012 22:41

There are plenty of changing bags on eBay, and a cursory glance shows several for under £15, including postage.

OutragedAtThePriceOfFreddos · 30/08/2012 23:24

You are being a bit silly. It's free, they can change it if they want to. And you still got a fee bag.

The most worrying aspect of all this is that you appear to be overlooking the stylistic implications of carrying this bag. They will be ten a penny and will give you away as a cheapskate who did not buy a fashionable statement change bag. I think you need to take a good look at yourself.

LaGuardia · 22/01/2014 14:11

I can honestly say I have never ever seen a mum around here using their freebie bag. YABU.

Smalltoothbrush · 22/01/2014 14:28

Plenty of cheap change bags around, I use this one which is great and a good size. You don't have to buy some designer monstrosity!

Think yourself lucky you dont have to be seen with it now Grin

My changing bag was lilac, green and flowery. Dh used it all the time. No one ever said a word to him about having a "girls" bag if that's what you/your dh is worried about.

I would LOVE for this to be the biggest problem in my life Grin
