On a six figure salary surely Bob Crow should have saved up enough money for a deposit on a house? Others struggle to save up (and succeed) so why shouldn't he?

Well, if you don't have a mortgage to pay and a house to repair you can afford to go this kind of restaurant.

Social housing is supposed to be for everyone - not just a ghetto for the most impoverished and unemployed. Obviously many of us would not accrue enough points to get on the housing list, but it's a mistake to assume it was ever intended to be restricted to the poorest. It was about decent homes for workers, as opposed to the slums of the 1930s.

But surely the ethos of social housing is to attempt to provide homes for those most in need, hence the subsidized rents. Anyone who earns enough to pay market value rent or a mortgage should surely do so to free up a home for someone who truly needs it. This does lead onto the question of lifelong tenancies too though.
