AIBU to lie about my address?

My LL is a nightmare, I desperately want to move but he refuses to let me, he sabotages any application I make for a new house by giving awful references and making up lies about me.

I have tried to warn the agents/LL's about the curent LL's false reference and that he is lying because he doesn't want me to move, and he is generally just a horrible man, but his reference still caused my application to be rejected.

I have tried everything but the only solution I can come up with is to not give the new agent/LL my curent LL's details, so he doesn't get to give a bad reference.

The suggestions I have been given are;

Give a friends address in place of LL's on the application. - the only problem with this being that I'm not sure I have anyone who I could ask to do this.

Say I don't live here anymore, that I am staying with my parents and that I had to move out so the LL could move in, then give this address for the LL and write the reference myself.

Does anyone have any other suggestions?

Hang on, he sounds totally dodgy. Is he letting it illegally? You deserve to live somewhere safe and sound without damp walls and dangerous boilers. How dare he tell you some sob story. Does he need two houses? Then why would he be homeless if you left? Go to CAB (if there are any left near you) get some advice.

If he's taking rent in cash he's probably not paying tax on it, or maybe I'm just extrapolating. He sounds a nasty piece of work.

Shop him to the police and the IR as soon as you move out.

Has he protected your deposit?

What area are you in? Can MN help you find a place to stay?

I agree that you need to move out ASAP!!

Give your parents address or say you live with them. Then you won't need a reference!

He sounds dreadful, the boiler thing is just disgusting, he should never have done that!

East Yorkshire.

I have seen no proof that the deposit was placed in the apropriate scheme, but he says that it was. Wether I believe this is another matter.

I am hoping to move ASAP, so I am not worried about moving to somewhere temporarily.
But the dc's go back to school soon so I hope I can get this house and get them settled as soon as possible.

If you are stuck for somewhere to live start another thread (name change if you like) asking MNs to help - there's always someone out there who can (sorry, I'm way down the other end ofthe country).

You should have received a letter, email or txt from the Deposit Protection Scheme independently of the LL, so it's likely that he's lying, and that you won't get your deposit back.

If you can hack it, once you are settled elsewhere, I would go after him for the deposit (you could get up to 3 x back if he hasn't protected it) and the gas safety certificate. It would be awful if he conned some other vulnerable person, or if someone got seriously hurt because of the boiler.

Fingers crossed for you.
