to get a tattoo...

When I'm thinking of ttc?

Me and my partner want another baby but after having almost no self image and living in baggy clothes to hide my Tum etc for the past few years I am finally feeling good about myself and fancied having a very small tattoo before I spend the next 2 years with pre and post mum body again.

I obvious wouldn't get pregnant before I had a tattoo but is there anything to say I shouldn't get one just before I try for another baby? Can it be at all harmful when ttc?

Thanks

They ask you about recent tattoos in antenatal appointments, I'm not sure why though.

I couldn't dream of getting one while pregnant or during the 2 week wait. Just maybe take a month off of trying and have this one selfish thing for myself before I have another little one..

Go to a reputable place and you'll be fine. There is a hepatitis risk in crappy places, and I wouldnt have a tattoo while pg (it would fucking hurt!) But if not pg yet, go for it.

Just don't have it anywhere likely to stretch/sag :)

CumberdickBendybatch · 28/08/2012 21:29

What are you going to get?

Cynner · 28/08/2012 21:31

If tat is done in unsterile circumstances it is possible to transmit blood borne diseases. I think you will be fine, unless you hire some scurvy backstreet poker :)

Do they Gimbling? I don't recall this question either time tbh & as I have a couple of very visible tats you'd expect they would have asked me?? Hmm

ditsydoll · 28/08/2012 22:28

I don't remember that question but then I don't have any tattoos so probably wouldn't have paid much attention to it if they had. I would imagine it would be incase you could have an infection or something I suppose. It's probably a bad idea but I would love to have one done..

Where in the country are you?

Rockchick1984 · 28/08/2012 22:33

Go for it! I've got 2 tattoos, both of them now over 10 years old and I still love them. Just make sure it's something you won't get bored of, or is somewhere you don't see all the time Grin

Gimblinginthewabe · 29/08/2012 10:08

I'm sure it was just in the booking appointment when they ask general questions about your health and stuff. I might be getting muddled up with giving blood.

Whatmeworry · 29/08/2012 10:28

I think its a good plan to do nothing irreversible while pregnant. Them hormones.....

Go for it! Go for a scout round rather than going straight in off the street and getting one there and then. They should have their hygiene certificate on the wall. Chat about what you are after if it is not a standard "out of the book" design. The place I got both mine done proudly told me the hygiene requirements are similar to a dental practice (he will have known, he was next door to a dentist).

I got both of mine at 18 and still love them at 31. I am currently pregnant but planning one which will celebrate the baby once s/he is born. Even my DH who is not pro-tattoos normally is considering getting a tiny one for the baby.

Gimbling they definitely ask about tats if you give blood - I'm a blood donor and could not give blood for 12 months after getting a tattoo or a piercing. It's because of the tiny risk of hepatitis/HIV if they used a dirty needle I think - I guess it's easier for them to ask "have you had a tattoo" rather than "have you had a tattoo that Dodgy Dave gave you when you were a bit drunk, using a needle he's used on his 3 mates first".
