She is nearly 3 and has recently decided clothes are overrated. Most of the time we put our foot down, but she has slept naked the last 3 or 4 nights. We were in a hotel where it was very warm so let her but now we're back she still wants to. Is there an unwritten rule that children MUST wear pyjamas that I am unaware of?

i would see a problem with this at all.

tho if a child attends nursery or primary school or child care with lots of other children i would insist they wore knickers as imho that can help stop the spread of thread worms. as it makes it harder for them to get eggs under nails if they scratch at night. but then again im rather weird about that and totally accept lots of people arnt

Socknickingpixie · 27/08/2012 19:02

i ment wouldnt i wouldnt see a problem

Astr0naut · 27/08/2012 19:03

Yabu -it's bloody freezing! Not taking my socks off until I'm fully tucked in tonight.

StealthPolarBear · 27/08/2012 19:04

thank you. The thread worms thing is exactly the sort of "everyone else but me knows this" thing that I expected.

I always do, DDs sometimes do.

wigglesrock · 27/08/2012 19:04

My dd2 puts her pjs or vest and pants (her fave) on, plays for a bit, has a story etc and then when she actually gets into bed, she takes them off. Its the way she likes to do it.

StealthPolarBear · 27/08/2012 19:04

me too Astro. Ironically, when DS is running about in the sunshine in a T shirt she is shivering in a jumper. But the minute we get in the house (ours or anyone elses) it's kit off :o

OP posts:
Margerykemp · 27/08/2012 19:06

why would anyone think DCs had to wear PJs Confused

shhhgobacktosleep · 27/08/2012 19:06

DS2(7) always sleeps naked and has done since he moved out of babygrows. He has shortie pjs he will put on in the morning to come downstairs in. He cannot stand being hot on bed and doesn't even sleep with a cover most of the year and just a single cotton sheet when it gets cooler (around Oct/Nov time). He's like DH who also sleeps naked with no covers too. I don't think there's any harm in it as long as they're comfortable.

StealthPolarBear · 27/08/2012 19:08

If you have something to say about me please just come out and say it. I have explained multiple times my thinking behind this and yet people do not seem to be reading my posts.

OP posts:
blackteaplease · 27/08/2012 19:08

Well, I do do the bath, teeth, pull up, pyjamas routine before bed but if dd is resisting then she goes to bed in just a pull up as it's not a fight worth having.

DizzyBeeisSchoolShoeShopping · 27/08/2012 19:08

YANBU, you can make sure she is warm enough with the duvet and extra covers after all. No reason why she should wear pjs or whatever.

firawla · 27/08/2012 19:09

I'll probably be the only one, as I always tend to be in these kinda threads, but no I wouldn't let my dcs sleep naked and I do consider pjs necessary. If they are hot they can wear short pj, or take the duvet off but I don't want them sleeping naked there is no need for it?

MyDogShitsMoney · 27/08/2012 19:09

Can't see why not. I hate sleeping in anything, too uncomfortable.

Nighties try to strangle you, pyjama legs ride up, everything twists round you like you're being swaddled. Just makes me angry!

I'm not generally a naked person but sleeping is different I think.

StealthPolarBear · 27/08/2012 19:09

thanks shhh, not aimed at you, I just want to know what pople are getting at, tbh. I started this because we are letting her sleep naked, and wanted to check it wasn't some big parenting no no for a reason I had not yet thought of, such as the threadworms one.

OP posts:
StealthPolarBear · 27/08/2012 19:10

completely agree blacktea - hence the thread.

OP posts:
StealthPolarBear · 27/08/2012 19:11

actually I have at times worn a nightie since having DCs and they no longer ride up. I think co sleeping has taught me to sleep very still :o

i think lots of people arnt aware of the threadworms thing im just weird i wouldnt think many people are like i am about it.

shrimponastick · 27/08/2012 19:15

I don't see anything wrong with it at all. If it is the child's preference - then what harm is it doing anyone? I had never thought about it before, as we are just so used to buying DCs little cute Pjs and nightwear.

As a child I was very shy and body conscious - weirdly so now I think about it - I hated having to show bare feet in PE Confused

However I am naked and barely clothed a lot these days Wink.

DS started sleeping in his undies at about 12. He is now almost 15, and he sleeps naked now. Well, I often find his grundies at the bottom of his bed on a morning Hmm

MyDogShitsMoney · 27/08/2012 19:16

I do get what you mean about not giving in to her btw.

It can be hard to tell when it's an actual preference and when it's just refusing for the sake of asserting themselves!

In the spirit of picking your battles I'd let this one go, just offer rather than insisting IYSWIM.

JeanBodel · 27/08/2012 19:18

My kids only wear pyjamas in the dead of winter. For most of the year they go to bed in their underwear.

At first I felt it was a bit strange as all their friends seem to have winter pyjamas & summer pyjamas. Then I realised I was saving a fortune on nightwear.

Socknickingpixie · 27/08/2012 19:19

one of my dc's just walked in the room to ask a question wearing nothing but pants, hes 13 Smile

blackteaplease · 27/08/2012 19:21

I didn't know about the threadworms thing, but NHS online says to wear close fitting underwear at night.

So maybe try to encourage her to wear knickers to bed?

MyDogShitsMoney · 27/08/2012 19:22

(Do I want to ask about threadworms?)
