Surely its time she moved on. She's even starting to talk like Lola, and after 9yrs (DS is 9) I really can't take much more.

Hasn't any one told you that you don't need to watch it with her

TheCrackFox · 27/08/2012 15:11

YABU

The longer they stick with Cbeebies then the longer it will take her to discover the living hell that is iCarly.

scattyspice · 27/08/2012 15:14

It seems to reverberate around the house. She watches it on the computer which is in the kitchen.

Seriously though, I do think it could be holding her back, she can be quite babyish.

You lucky thing. Go on the games thread. There are 8 year-olds playing Call of Duty.

JamieandTheOlympicTorch · 27/08/2012 15:20

DS1 watched it for a lot longer than DS2 - until he was 7 or 8. We used to hide his In The Night Garden Ninky Nonk when school friends came round to play.

It may represent security and routine for her. It is frankly, more interesting and educational than lots of the stuff on Cbeebies. Put a DVD on instead?

She'll grow out of it in her own time, probably when a friend makes a negative comment about it.

MissMogwi · 27/08/2012 15:20

She will move on to older programmes in her own time. Hell, I enjoy a Peppa Pig episode or two myself.

Once they find Nickolodeon or the Disney channel of annoyingness you will be sorry! Grin

Cartoonjane · 27/08/2012 15:20

Mt DD who is the same age as yours still watches Cbeebies along with some CBBC. I don't mind at all. It's only certain programmes that she likes- Charlie and Lola being one.

MissMogwi · 27/08/2012 15:21

I know Peppa isn't on Cbeebies before I get pulled on it!

DameEnidSpink · 27/08/2012 15:23

DD 8.5 still watches it from time to time. I prefer that to her watching some of the more grown up American stuff that her friends watch tbh

scattyspice · 27/08/2012 15:30

I don't really object to cbeebies itself (apart from the squeeky voices) but I would like her to broaden her interests a bit, I think she is stuck in a rut. DS likes Dr Who, Star Wars etc so he's no help.

Anyone have any suggestions of good alternatives?

DS1 is seven and a half and still watches a fair bit because DS2 who is five watches it. But then it's mixed in with a bit of CBBC (horrible histories and deadly 60) and a bit of Tom and Jerry too.

bananaistheanswer · 27/08/2012 15:35

My DD is 7 and still loves watching stuff on cbeebies. I don't mind at all, like others say, when she's ready she'll move on. I've got an ex trying to make DD grow up quicker than she's ready for by pushing his crap DVDs on her so I'm not fussed at all if she still wants to watch octonauts or tree fu Tom. I've said to her - there are plenty of adults who go nuts over mickey mouse so if she likes something then she likes it, irrespective of her age.

MarysBeard · 27/08/2012 15:49

Wouldn't worry so much. I used to watch Playschool until I was about 8, and also suck my thumb, in spite of having a reading age of 9 when I started school. I still like some kids programmes (have box sets of Dogtanian & Moomins, bought pre-kids!), had all the Harry Potter books after the second on pre-order at Amazon and went to see all the films as soon as they came out. I have post graduate qualifications :)
