Ok that a terrible description and it's celeb bb reference two things I should be shot for but!...

She keeps saying to Julian "I always get on better with the gays" and "I need a bit of camp". Repetitively.

It just feels like him being gay is his defining feature and it's like he's her toy in a weird way? Kind of like a good old boy stating "I like an Indian or two around such funny little chaps what what!"

Am I making any sense or being totally U?!

mrsjay liking a narrow band of women - and I'd put Black, Goodyear, Collins and others in that banding - and using them to define and reinforce your view of women is grossly insulting and restricting if the men concerned are unwilling to open their eyes.

Bit like straight people who are unwilling to let gay people define themselves as fully rounded individuals with diverse interests. Or men who think all women like kittens and are crap with the housekeeping money.

Mrsjay · 27/08/2012 13:33

You think limited fair enough I think these men just like women to hang around with especially showbizzy types ,

Spuddybean · 27/08/2012 13:35

kitty not sure you can do it as a whole degree but it defo is a couple of module options for certain courses ie psychology, history of art etc

limitedperiodonly · 27/08/2012 13:43

boney that's one image Clary has chosen and that's fine.

There are other parts of his act, particularly on radio and in writing, which aren't predicated on him being gay but are about him being a thoughtful person with a sharp wit. I prefer that but if he can make money out of being a stereotypical queen it's not hurting me.

I know men who are out but not camp and think he's a traitor. I don't think he's bound to behave in a particular way so as not to let the side down but it's interesting.

Mrsjay · 27/08/2012 13:45

My gay friend is head of his department he is good at his job very professional but as soon as he goes out and away from work he is as camp as a row of tents and as he calls himself a screaming queen , sometimes people go diving into their sterotypes

Spuddybean · 27/08/2012 13:49

I agree mrsjay but i think there is security in stereotypes. Look how many glamour model types/footballers wives there are. Sometimes people wear it like armour. Sometimes it can be a bit sad really. And it does confirm others stereotypes too, so altho people shouldn't have to be ambasadors for their 'group' i do feel a responsibility if i am a minority to not let the side down and perpetuate what can be twisted and become damaging.

MrsJREwing · 27/08/2012 13:59

Julie was stereotyping.

Julie seems from the show to be an odd individual who is skilled at manipulation and using smoke and mirrors.

You would want to be despirate for money or a career revival to reveal yourself on that show as there is no hiding.

Mrsjay · 27/08/2012 14:02

Julie goodyear says hello to birds cos she thinks its her reincarnated friend Hmm I never liked her she always makes me uncomfy for some reason

limitedperiodonly · 27/08/2012 14:07

mrsjay it's fine for your colleague to behave any way he chooses. What wouldn't be okay would if he chose to define other people according to his prejudices.

I have an out gay friend who is a senior executive at one of the most conservative and high-profile organisations in Britain.

They employ him because he's good at his job and it helps to have a tame poof (his word) when they're busy nailing other gay people back in the closet.

I'd never get into a discussion about how he can work for such a vile organisation because deserves not to be defined by one aspect of his identity.

Plus he's an old friend and I can be a hypocrite too when in pursuit of money.

SoleSource · 28/08/2012 14:18

Julie is a clever manipulator of people. If I was tbere I would tell her I do not wish to discuss that over and over.

(SOME!)
Non camp gays hate camp gays.
Gays hate bisexuals.
Gays and bisexuals hate transgendered people.
Transsexuals hate transvestites.
Transgendered people hate drag queens.
There's an awful lot of hate in the rainbow coloured world.
