To laugh when DS posts on fb that he is leaving home?

DS (16) came to rant about how unreasonable his bf's parents are (they are insisting he allows his younger brothers access to his xbox, even though the xbox was given to him).

I said I could see their reasoning, but it isn't the way I generally do things, pointing out a couple of things similar that I do in a different way (the laptop we all clubbed together to buy him for his birthday a few years ago is not for general use, neither is the Xbox he got for his 16th).

He then started ranting about me having an administrator account on his laptop, and putting parental controls on it. Rounding off with the comment 'I fucking hate you all, what have you ever done for me' and storming off to his bedroom.

Two minutes later he posted on fb that he is leaving home, knowing I had fb on the family computer downstairs.

Is it unreasonable that I find this soooo funny?

Doesn't mean you want them accessing hard core pornography which you might have a huge moral problem with though, does it?

this just because they can have sex doesnt mean they can process porn and it does give a skewed view of relationships and its just grubby

Mrsjay · 26/08/2012 17:57

My teen give never go dramatic like that they go a bit sinister and just seethe and throw me death stares I am scared sometimes Grin

Mrsjay · 26/08/2012 17:58

Girls not give Confused

FallenCaryatid · 26/08/2012 17:59

OP, I suspect you will just let him froth and moan to his mates and let him be.
I was very challenging at 17. And 16. And 15...Grin
I became reasonably sensible at around 22.

McHappyPants, when do you think you will allow your children unrestricted access to hard core porn?

Hopeforever · 26/08/2012 18:00

I think the idea to post 'room for rent' on your Facebook as a great one. Then detail the cost, for the room, for food, internet acces, washing and ironing etc! He may realise what a good deal he has after all being there rent free :)

froggies · 26/08/2012 18:00

Hahahahahaha

He just asked me how much it is for a council house in the village.

Then asked what's for dinner.

Oh the innocence of youth, and the huge waiting list for housing.
I really should be drinking wine to make the most of this entertainment.

FallenCarytid, indeed, I will just let him get on with it.

Very soon he will realise how unlikely he is to get somewhere to live on his £120 a month EMA payments. Unless he goes to live with his Dad, but that means he will have to Change school and leave all of his friends, not gonna happen.

In the meantime I shall smile sweetly and enjoy.

Who is to say he is looking at porn.

FallenCaryatid · 26/08/2012 18:08

It's surprising what pops up if you google something unexpected.
17 year old boys are also curious and given recommendations by friends whose parents don't bother with parental control.

I don't understand why you have a problem with this McHappy.

froggies · 26/08/2012 18:08

Trust me, he looks a porn.

He is 16, of course he looks at porn. That is why the restrictions were put on.

On the few occasions I haven't logged out of my profile on the family computer, I have found porn sites in the history and on one occasion walked in on him looking at porn, luckily the girls were at their Dads that evening so no harm done. I have never seen him go so red, or disappear to his room so quickly (slightly stooped) as he did on that occasion Grin

Sometimes having a teen is as entertaining as having a toddler OP.
DS is aware of how much it would cost, his sister is at uni and paying for a room in a shared hose with bills on top.

FallenCaryatid · 26/08/2012 18:10

hose?
house

MigratingCoconuts · 26/08/2012 18:15

You have got to love teenagers Grin

gordyslovesheep · 26/08/2012 18:16

Buys him this as a leaving card

Alliwantisaroomsomewhere · 26/08/2012 18:18

Love OP's DS asking about the cost of housing and what was for dinner Grin

bronze · 26/08/2012 18:22

You could do the advert for a lodger without all your friends commenting by making the post only visible to him. He won't know that's the case

GirlWithTheMouseyHair · 26/08/2012 18:29

Love that in the same breath he asks about council houses and dinner

My DS is only three - I get folded arms, a glare through his eyelashes and "I'm really cross!"

McHappy what's the problem?!

Lara2 · 26/08/2012 20:11

DS1 provides endless amounts of entertainment! DH says we obviously run a crap hotel as we just can't help upsetting the clientele!! Grin

MammaTJisanOlympicSumoWrestler · 26/08/2012 20:14

I get told I am mean frequently!! She is only just 7 and hasn't threatened to leave home yet.

oldraver · 26/08/2012 20:16

I would post that as he is leaving home he won't be needeing the new code for the wi-fi Grin

Mrsjay · 26/08/2012 20:53

hose?

a shared hose tis hard being a student Grin

Mrsjay · 26/08/2012 20:55

you know how i said up thread mine are quiet WELL dd1 came in from work in a foul mood and started shouting the odds that she didnt want chicken for dinner and then shouted at her sister if we had a dog she would have probably kicked it sigh I had to have a serious word not had to do the pointy finger with her for a few years Hmm

McHappyPants2012 · 26/08/2012 20:57

No problem, just didnt see why a 16 year needs parental controls.

My sister aged 16 stays down sometimes that's why I was asking, because she uses the main computer

overthehillmum · 26/08/2012 21:06

I liked one of my sons pictures, he put as a comment "put anything on my facebook again mum and i'm moving out", i replied on it saying "ok son", hes still here dammit, he is 20 though!! Yanbu!

lovebunny · 26/08/2012 21:51

do laugh, but don't humiliate him by advertising his room - he might feel obliged to go!
