to collect the neighbours' children's litter and throw it into their backyard

They're always dropping litter at the front of our houses and on the green and anywhere they can. It makes our area look really scruffy. Today I collected up a few crisp packets and threw them into their backyard, hoping they might get the message. My children never drop litter.Even if it accidentally falls out of the car I tell the kids to pick it up.

If it's really just them, then bag it up and put it on their doorstep. Don't be childish in littering their back garden in return.

BlackberryIce · 25/08/2012 18:45

How do you know it's theirs? ( and how do you know what your kids do or don't do, behind your back?)

LadyBeagleEyes · 25/08/2012 18:46

Hate, hate, hate litter.
It was drummed into ds from an early age.
I've no idea what you can do about it though Sad, but I don't think I'd chuck it in their garden.

designergirl · 25/08/2012 18:48

When my kids play at the front I am always there with them. My kids are only little and I know what they eat outside and I know they don't drop litter. I have seen the neighbours' kids dropping litter and I said "Aren't you going to pick it up?" and he said "I'll pick it up later"

Pretty childish! Tell them to pick it up or have a work with their parents.

TidyDancer · 25/08/2012 18:49

That doesn't mean it's only them.

I'm afraid that, while I do sympathise about the litter issue, you are in the wrong.

YANBU

Jakadaal · 25/08/2012 18:53

I also always tell my children to pick up litter and they do when I am with them .... not sure if they do when I am not around to supervise. Is there a bin for the litter to be put in?

designergirl · 25/08/2012 19:22

Yes - inside their own house!

Poor form

At least knock on the door and hand it to their parents if you feel this strongly

But dumping it in their back yard makes you almost as bad as them really

How old are the kids?

Jakadaal · 25/08/2012 19:31

Just as you have in your house so why put it over their wall instead of using your bin in your house - you are being just as bad. Have a grown up conversation with them or their parents - it might get you the results you want.

designergirl · 25/08/2012 19:32

6 and 4

So when your 6 and 4yr olds are old enough to play out without you supervising them, if you suddenly found crisp packets in your backyard...would you have any idea who put them there or why?

You wouldn't would you?

So your children would just carry on dropping rubbish and annoying the neighbours without you having the slightest clue.

Just knock next time with the rubbish in your hands and tell their parents they're dropping litter.

Socknickingpixie · 25/08/2012 19:38

so to teach them a lesson you are doing the exact same thing yourself wheres the logic in that?

bag it up knock the door hand it to them and say "your kids dropped this in the street/my garden,i was very concerned it may be something important to them as ofcourse we know they wouldnt litter"

ChaosTrulyReigns · 25/08/2012 19:39

Do you stop or slow the car down when you get your badbad SC to pick up their litter?

It is infuriating, I have a similar problem with some neighbours and their children. I wouldn't dump the rubbish in their garden though, that's a bit antagonistic imo, you don't want things escalating and getting out of hand. So yabu I'm afraid.

TheMysteryCat · 25/08/2012 20:28

i put it back in my neighbours garden, along with all their children's toys, broken crap and other junk they casually drop in mine every single fecking day.

NoComet · 25/08/2012 20:35

I don't think YABU, I'm not sure you will get anywhere what ever you do or saySad

I can't drop litter, my mothers disapproving voice appears in my head if I even vaguely contemplate it.

Wish my horrible DDs heard it too! They are fine once they step out the gate. They just don't seem to count rubbish left around the house or garden as litterAngry
