Boarding a bus, holding a milkshake (late pm sugar pick me up). Bus driver tells me I cannot bring it on as it's dairy and if I spill any on the seat then the seat will have to be THROWN AWAY due to lysteria! What the actual fuck? I stammered that it was made of pasteurised milk......Fair enough if they don't want to let drinks, this just seems so bizarre,

He was bullshitting you.

SoleSource · 25/08/2012 17:35

Sorry just Shock.

Call bus garage and ask!

whenyouwishuponastar · 25/08/2012 17:36

Other day by the coast - they had boat trips around the harbour -

Asked the man in kiosk if it was suitable for the dog (had the trusted hound with us as on hol) Was a big boat with seats / toilets / bar etc... so fesiable that he could sit on the deck on his lead with us!

Was told "NO - due to quarantine laws" - WTF??? trip was 15mins only around the harbour - def not in international waters... would quite have understood if he said - don't want your smelly dog on my boat - or "NO" he might jump over...

Why does everything have to be dressed up as 'elf'n'safety?

At least it made me laugh.

TapirBackRider · 25/08/2012 17:36

Bus driver was telling you fibs.

The bus company I worked for had a policy of no hot food or drinks on their vehicles not that it was enforced

It's just a major PITA to clean spilled milk from a bus seat, and stinks.

KnockKnockPenny · 25/08/2012 17:37

Most buses ban food/drink. Weid reason he gave though!

Kladdkaka · 25/08/2012 17:37

The HSE have a myth busters service online where you can post health and safety 'rules' and they tell you whether or not they're bollocks. This sounds like a good candidate.

OddBoots · 25/08/2012 17:38

You wouldn't be allowed on with and food or drink at all (other than taking the shopping home) around here.

TapirBackRider · 25/08/2012 17:40

And a big Grin to the seat being thrown away. Those things are held down by one screw - each one costs about £30; there is no way they'll just bin them!

FWIW - I got a needle stick after some lovely person left part of a hypodermic needle in a seat. The seat was removed (and replaced), and taken apart to remove it all, then reassembled and declared fit for service.

I'm giggling at the listeria thing - at least he's an inventive liar!

neuroticmumof3 · 25/08/2012 17:46

lmfao apart from at Tapir. That cautionary tale has put me right off using a bus ever again.

grobagsforever · 25/08/2012 17:52

That's the thing I honestly don't believe she was lying. I know the driver, DD and I take the bus most days. They do have a blanket ban on hot food and drinks but I often get on with other cold drinks and DD is always munching snacks.....I think I'll have to write to them, it's just too odd!

Tapir, that is the stuff of nightmares!

AmIthatbad · 25/08/2012 17:53

Grin I understand the no food and drink policy, which has been the case since I was a wee girl

But this has absolutely nothing to do with a Health & Safety policy.

iismum · 25/08/2012 18:03

Well, weird reason, but YWBU to think you could take an open milkshake on the bus. The risk of spillage is clearly too high (even if it wouldn't result in throwing the seat away).

It had a lid on!

She's obviously misunderstood the 'no food or drinks' thing then. My vehicles were regularly covered in both - and other much worse things.

It was a six week wait until I got the blood results back; all clear thankfully.

Maat · 25/08/2012 18:21

Agree with Tapir - spilt milk would be the least of your worries on our local buses.

One thing that confuses me is why on earth buses have seats facing each other at the back of the bus when it almost guarantees people will put their feet up on them, despite the numerous warnings not to.

Why not just have extra rows of seats facing the front Confused?

Bellyjaby · 25/08/2012 18:30

Many years ago a bus driver in my home town refused to let a little old lady on the bus as she had snow on her boots. Nearly started a mini on bus riot.

NovackNGood · 25/08/2012 18:32

There would be no legroom for forward facing seats as the wheel arches and engine compartment are there.

BikeRunSki · 25/08/2012 18:33

We are not allowed post it notes at work because about 1 in 50 million people is allergic to the glue and a tiny fraction of them might be stupid enough to lick it. Hmm.

Maat · 25/08/2012 18:38

Novack thank you for clearing that up for me. I will have to find something else to ponder on now whilst doing my commute Grin

BulldogDrummond · 25/08/2012 18:39

I tried to buy some cake candle holders in Sainsbo's this morning. I couldn't find any in the cake decorating department or the children's party (plates etc) department. I asked at Customer Services and was told that they do not sell them because of H&S. Why? Because they have pins that are stuck into the cake. Does anyone know where I can buy cake candle holders, please?

You have children so must have birthday parties so must have cakes so must have candles so must have candle holders.

SPsFanjoSponsoredByFemFresh · 25/08/2012 18:48

Ski Grin seriously? If they are stupid enough to lick they deserve what happens next Grin

trixie123 · 25/08/2012 19:09

Bulldog seriously? They're not pins, just pointed ends! that's nuts. Any normal cake shop surely would sell them (but then I would have assumed I could get them at the supermarket also). OP, a friend of mine was refused entry on a bus because he had a sealed, never opened can of paint inside a carrier bag. His DP worked for the local rag and made a story out of it - the paint shop gave him free paint for the publicity!

TapirBackRider · 25/08/2012 20:04

Maat Those seats are built over the rear wheel arch - at the time it was seen as the best way to fit in as many seats as possible.
