Not to have apologised to the child?

I was running for my bus the other morning. A little boy, perhaps about three years old, was walking towards me with his Dad. As I ran past the boy stuck his hand out and i bumped it, knocking a toy out of his hand. I heard it fall but kept running for the bus- as it pulled away I saw the child in tears and the Dad looking daggers at me. WIBU not to have stopped to apologise?

You should have really called out a quick "Sorry". But you know that already, don't you?

Aniseeda · 25/08/2012 13:37

Well he did stick his hand out so not really your fault (or his if he was only three) I am sure you'd have avoided him if you could have. I confess that before I had my own children, I used to give the parents a funny look if their child walked/ran into me Blush but now I understand that children's spatial awareness isn't fully developed and these things happen!

A jogger once stuck out his hand to shove my child out of the way as my child stood on the pavement waiting for me to open the car - now THAT was unreasonable!

cinnamonnut · 25/08/2012 13:42

YANB as unreasonable as everyone is suggesting. Yes, maybe you could have shouted a quick sorry, but you didn't exactly knock him flying.

WildWorld2004 · 25/08/2012 13:47

The child was probably only crying coz it dropped its toy not because it was hurt. If i was walking dwn the street & someone was coming towards me i make sure my child gives them room to pass. By the sounds of things it was an accident & nothing to worry about.

QuangleWangleQuee · 25/08/2012 13:53

I think the parent should have apologised on behalf of the child for sticking his hand out so that you ran into it.

WilfSell · 25/08/2012 13:55

I think if you had absent-mindedly stuck your hand out holding a cup of coffee and a running child knocked it to the floor, you would probably be furious if he/she carried on running without an apology so yes, YANBU.

WilfSell · 25/08/2012 13:55

I mean YABU of course Do unto others etc..

minikimmi · 25/08/2012 13:56

The fact that you've posted about it proves it's niggling you and you feel guilty. I'd be more worried if it hadn't registered. Kids greet about anything, stop beating yourself up!

differentnameforthis · 25/08/2012 15:15

I expect you would want an apology if a toddler crashed into you, causing you to drop something.

pictish · 25/08/2012 15:17

I wouldn't miss my bus for that. No way. Yanbu.

blueemerald · 25/08/2012 15:19

Well I wouldn't expect an apology if I saw a toddler running and stepped in his way so he crashed in to me.

LilyCocoplatt · 25/08/2012 15:28

YANBU, if you wouldn't have bumped into the child except for the fact that he stuck his hand in your way when he saw you coming you don't have anything to apologise for.
