And even though the log book was in my name, they have transferred the money to his bank account Shock

As I pointed out to my dh, they have no idea of the circumstances, we could have had a falling out and he could have just taken it and signed he transfer.

I am gob smacked Grin, this is a national company, not some back street garage!

Well, you don't need proof of ownership to sell anything else. So having the registration document is probably the best they can do realistically. But you'd expect them to check if the name is different to the person selling the car, I agree.

Many husbands and wives or partners don't have the same surname these days so it wouldn't automatically be a sign of anything suspicious to have different names

I take it the poster who suggested reporting the car stolen was saying it tongue in cheek, as you could get into serious shit for reporting something stolen when you know it isn't.

When I separated from my husband he did manage to sell one of the cars we owned which was registered in my name. That really wound me up.
