Just back from 10 nights camping in France.

10 nights on a shitty airbed, with covers that ended up slightly damp every morning.

10 days of relentless heat and NO shade at all.

Showers that were less powerful than my urine stream.

15 hours in a car with dh and 3 dc. ds2 vomiting 40 mins into the journey.

No wine to help me through it as i'm 8 weeks pregnant and feeling dire.

NEVER AGAIN.

Oh ENormas. There must be a positive? Was there any bit that was ok?

Margerykemp · 24/08/2012 15:00

camping when pregnant is never a good idea surely?

ENormaSnob · 24/08/2012 15:00

The pool was okay Grin

I know i'm an ungrateful cow but come back package holidays, all is forgiven!

I've never liked camping. I'm with you!

Machadaynu · 24/08/2012 15:01

Airbeds with a normal duvet and sheets with your usual pillows are amazing.

If you had no shade you need a tent with a porch :)

Poor showers are intolerable though.

HumphreyCobbler · 24/08/2012 15:02

everything is shit when you are 8 weeks pg to be fair, but that does sound rather grim

I am looking at having a non self catering holiday next. I got bloody fed up with putting food on the table for eight people this year.

ENormaSnob · 24/08/2012 15:04

Oh yes the cooking and cleaning.

To be fair dh did all that as I just feel too ill Sad

YANBU - did 10 days in a tent on the Isle of Wight a few years back. It wasn't bad to be honest, but it's just too long in a tent! We still camp, but 4 nights is my maximum!

thebeesnees79 · 24/08/2012 15:04

I hate camping lol. no i don't think you are bu, being pregnant in the first trimester is hard enough without crap quality sleep and a long car journey!

HumphreyCobbler · 24/08/2012 15:05

I send you my all my sympathy - that tiredness is unbelievable

bigTillyMint · 24/08/2012 15:05

And there was me, missing my French camping trip because we did an AI package insteadGrin

Where abouts were you?

freddiefrog · 24/08/2012 15:06

I bloody hate camping so as far as I'm concerned YADNBU!

DH is going on scout camp with our 2 kids this afternoon and while he's out in a muddy field putting up a tent in the pissing rain, I'm sitting in a warm dry house, on a comfy sofa drinking tea, then when I need a wee I don't have to traipse across a muddy field in the pissing rain to sit in a spider infested shed, and I get to sleep in my own comfy bed tonight instead of a half deflated air bed!

Bwahahahahahahahaha!

HazleNutt · 24/08/2012 15:07

YANBU. I will NEVER go camping. Ever. Not for main holiday, not for extra holiday, not for work. If god wanted us to camp he would not have invented hotels.

angeltattoo · 24/08/2012 15:08

YADDDNBU.

Staying anywhere less comfortable than your own home is NOT A HOLIDAY

MIL take note and feck off with your caravaning/camping/cook 3 meals a day idea of a holiday anything less than equal to, or greater than, facilities at home, coupled with nice weather, a pool and no cooking, cleaning or washing is not a holiday.

And staying in a tent while pregnant? You deserve a medal Grin

ENormaSnob · 24/08/2012 15:08

We went to Clairvaux Le Lacs in The Jura.

It's a gorgeous part of the world but possibly better in a hotel Wink

tilly, I will never stray from the beloved package holiday again. It wasn't even much cheaper tbh.

TodaysAGoodDay · 24/08/2012 15:14

YA so NBU!
I hate camping. My parents used to drag us camping every year, now I won't go anywhere unless it's a hotel or B&B.

Caerlaverock · 24/08/2012 15:17

Camping without wine is an endurance event not a holiday. If you do go again try not to be pregnant and research some campsites that have trees for shade.

ENormaSnob · 24/08/2012 15:20

Caer, there were hundreds of trees.

Just not lending shade to our pitch!Everyone elses were fine.

I bloody love camping but wouldn't do it when pregnant. I hate everything when pregnant because it all makes me feel even shiter. So YANBU but only because you're pregnant.

Next time, try glamping as a compromise. All the joys of the outdoors but with a naice bed.

girlywhirly · 24/08/2012 15:27

DH and I don't camp. I went a few times in my twenties, in UK which was freezing or wet or both. Once with friends to the Vendee which was better; hot, near beach, good loos and showers. Driving there and back was arduous, and we had to cross by ferry as no chunnel in those days. Never repeated the experience though. Friends had the bright idea of bringing one of those cheap gazebos from Argos and putting it up in front of the tent for shade.

Poor you Norma, it must have been hell on your journey.

Some friends are going this week-end (in UK) and I am looking after their cat. I think they're mad frankly.

Twitterqueen · 24/08/2012 15:29

I'm not laughing... honest.
It is NEVER unreasonable to refuse to go camping unless you are a) male and b) your DW is sending you off with DSs for some male bonding and/or to give DW some peace and quiet.

I think you did amazingly well to stick it out for so long. We did it for 2 days and switched to a mobile home....

bigTillyMint · 24/08/2012 15:30

I know - we paid a bit more for our AI, but then all the food and drink was free, so it was about the same as camping in France.

The DC have said it was the best holiday ever. We may have to bin the tent.Confused

MrsKeithRichards · 24/08/2012 15:32

I love camping, or so I thought. I spent a week in the rain it was awful.

Decided I am a fair weather two nights at most camper!
