AIBU to want to murder the person that has smashed into my car and driven off

Was in the supermarket doing weekly shopping. Came back to car to find that rear bumper and rear light has been smashed to pieces.

Thankyou to whoever it was who has kindly written down the number plate of this car and left it under my window wiper. We are now going ahead with a police prosecution (failure to report accident), and hoping that it has also been caught by the police CCTV camera as the police station is across the road from where parked.

Why do people do this???? Am so angry right now, it's all that we need. My husbands grandfather died on Tuesday, and we are moving house next Friday - just another thing that we don't need right now :-(((

I would feel exactly the same. Some people have no moral compass.

WorraLiberty · 24/08/2012 13:44

I hope it's the real reg plate that was written down.

It's not uncommon for someone to bash your car and then pop a different reg plate under your wiper...so other people who saw it think it's not worth noting it IYSWIM Sad

Are you sure it wasn't the driver of the car that hit you that left his/her reg number?

Still a pain in the arse but at least if it was it's one less thing to get cross about.

OneOfMyTurnsComingOn · 24/08/2012 13:46

Ouch. Good luck with that.

Noqontrol · 24/08/2012 13:47

Doubt the owner left it, you'd tend to leave your phone no rather than reg no.

Also check if the store has CCTV as well as the police station.

plumpkin99 · 24/08/2012 14:03

Have checked with the store - they did have CCTV that could have picked it up, but was focused on the front of the store all morning. Hopefully the police one will have it.

Insurance company have traced the car and it is insured, so they are following it up.

Sorry to hear that Plumkin. I had a similar experience last year; my Mum had just died and I was down her way sorting the estate out when my vehicle was hit whilst parked in a supermarket car park. A note was left under my windscreen wiper telling me the make and model of the car that hit it and drove off but the Police said they couldn't find it. So it was either a mistake (someone tried to remember the details but got them wrong) or it was a deliberate attempt of the perpetrator to cover their tracks. Either way my brand new truck ended up with a nice scuff on one side, which will effect it's value now I want to sell it. Barstewards!

Glad it is getting sorted out. I am sick to the back teeth of dents and scratches on my car bodywork and windiws!! from supermarket car parkd. Cunting cunts.

It would be a bugger having to get your car fixed when it wasnt your fault.

Maybe the driver was in a hurry, didnt know how long ud be, or maybe they panicked so all they could think of was leaving their reg.

Hope u get it sorted out.

Well murder is a little strong, but I understand the knee jerk reaction.

I bought a second hand car for £5000. One year later, when I returned to the train station car park where I had parked it, the whole front part had been smashed in, and the whole car shunted backwards by the force of the impact. No note, no CCTV, no witnesses (it was late). I only had third party fire and theft insurance. It cost me £2000 to get it fixed.

I thought it would be worth it as it had low mileage and had previously been in excellent condition. But since then, it has had a new problem almost every other month, for the past year. I should have just written it off :-(

Hope yours isn't too expensive to get fixed and you have some luck in tracking down the perpetrator.
