I was employed by company A working 8-4 mon - Fri. Company B took over and i was made to work between 8 and 8 plus sats. So i would work one or two shifts a week 12- 8 then 8-4 the rest of week one sat in four 9-1. I have since had a baby and because of my husband working evenings in a bar its really difficult for me to work to 8pm. on random nights. so requested 8-8 mondays then 8-4 tue, wed, thu. as a fixed pattern and fixing my sat shifts to set dates so I can arrange in advance. (My husband has arranged for him to have every Monday off. So he can pick my daughter up.) I originally requested 8-4 mon - fri for ease. and I have compromised as much as I can to this. We have a small team of 7 only one person needs to be there from 4pm. Do you think this is unreasonable?

You are allowed to ask - that is the law. But remember that they dont have to say yes. Although it sounds reasonable to me.

They have to treat all their employees the same so they have consider whether it is putting extra burden on the other employees by you only being able to work 4 to 8pm one day of the week.

Thank you, I don't think the issue is so much that its only one day a week. Its more that the day I do is not flexible like it used to be. It needs to be fixed.

I used to work shifts, either 7-3.30 or 2.30-11pm including weekends. There was no set rota so each week was different which would have been a nightmare when it came to arranging childcare. I asked for flexible hrs and now work Sunday to Thursday 7am-1pm as someone has said, your employer doesn't have to say yes but it's always worth asking.

YANBU to ask - you'd still be doing your share of the 8pm shift so they should at least consider it.
