Anti-homosexuality in religion.

Surely, at least in this county, there are laws about this?

Take the Johavah's stance for example

This is outrageous! It gives tips on how to 'avoid homosexuality'!

This is a really complex and emotive issue. Many people find some of the views of JWs repugnant, but yes they are entitled to them as we have freedom of religion.

I take the OPs point, though, that this dogma could be damaging to some people, if it leads gay youngsters to unhealthy repression, feelings of shame, confusion about their identity etc. I think it is important to respond to young people expressing their worries in a sensitive and understanding way, and not by presenting them with an oversimplistic, black and white dogma. Freedom of religion shouldn't mean freedom to damage people psychologically, that's not a personal issue, it's an issue for society.

That's fine SOCCP I kinda realised that anyway. Smile
I just do worry about attacking religions but my 'feeling is'......
"I treat all beliefs and individuals with equal and deep respect, but all religions with equal and deep contempt"

Or to quote my fave playwright as I said to members of the church I left after the incident mentioned above:
"Individually I love you all with affection unspeakable, but collectively I look upon you with a disgust that amounts to absolute detestation"
(My views on religious activists / evangelists not Mnetters! Grin )

We live in a country where we have religious and political freedom.

We are free to believe what we want, but we have laws that stop us harming or discriminating against others because of our views.

Think of the B&B owners who were prosecuted for not allowing a Gay couple to stay. The couple are free to have their view but not to let that effect the way they act.

We have a way to go as a country to extend our laws so that people are not discriminated against due to their sexuality, gender race or religion, but when you look at other countries, we are no where near the worst, I'd say we were starting to do well.

As a Christian who believes that parents have not failed if their child is Gay but have failed if they disown them, I am glad that I live in a country that is constantly adapting, if rather slowly
