£15.00 for me and dd!! That must mean £30.00 for a family of four! And this was 2D not 3D.

Is this really an acceptable price?

Make the most of it. A cinema treat was a rare thing for us, now the only cinema in town has shut and I've bloody missed it this summer!

MonsterBookOfTysons · 22/08/2012 22:12

Dh went to a cinema to see Ted on Monday in London, £15 for just him, he is still not over the shock :o

MrsPnut · 22/08/2012 22:14

We saw Brave today and with an Orange Wednesday code it still cost us £12.60.

We took our own sweets and a water bottle but I still thought it was extortionate. 3D films aren't completely covered by the Orange Wednesday at the Odeon which is a complete swizz.

bruffin · 22/08/2012 22:15

If you book online for cine world you get 10% off

butterflyroom · 22/08/2012 22:21

Stupidly expensive but ways to save....
Orange Weds
Odeon Premier Club - pay about £2 to join, much cheaper tickets on Tuesdays and some films kids go to for £1 with a free adult. It was £20 for 3 adults and two children to go and see Brave yesterday.
Cineworld - Saturday morning £1 for children although the films aren't alwats the most up to date.
Showcase - become an 'insider' for cheaper tickets.
Overall though, it's shocking! Imax (although a special treat) charge £15 per person!
I now take my own food and drink too unless I am emotionally blackmailed....

DuchessofMalfi · 22/08/2012 22:25

I took DD to cinema last week. It was her first trip. I booked online and got the 10% discount at Cineworld.

Mrsjay - we saw The Lorax and loved it.

BiscuitNibbler · 22/08/2012 22:40

I could have started this thread!

I was just looking to book tickets for Brave for me and DD. Seeing the cost I decided we would just wait and get the DVD when it comes out.

EndoplasmicReticulum · 22/08/2012 22:44

Move to the Isle of Wight! We were there on holiday, the cinema in Ryde is £2.50 per ticket. We went twice, and I even bought their drinks rather than smuggled my own in, as the tickets were so cheap.

Slightly manky old cinema, but no mankier than our local Odeon where it's about £8 a ticket.

itsjustmeanon · 22/08/2012 22:45

DH and I now only go to the cinema on Wednesdays, when we use our Orange Wednesday. We can't afford to go the rest of the week. It's crazy expensive.

bruffin · 22/08/2012 22:47

Brave is lovely, its worth seeing at the cinema as the artistry is absolutely beautiful.

bronze · 22/08/2012 22:48

It's the only film I've been desperate to see
I loved it
And I really wanted dd to see it. I still think she wants to be a princess but I feel better about being bear

Mrsjay · 22/08/2012 22:53

Mrsjay - we saw The Lorax and loved it.

aww did you I have no little people to take to the lorax but my big girls are desperate to see it Grin

we only go to the cinema about 3/4 times a year we always went to Harry potter was a tradition , went to see Ice age 4 it was ok but...

Mrsjay · 22/08/2012 22:55

STV ran a special on brave the artists and animators came to scotland to take inspiration , My eldest ambition is to work for pixar

EndoplasmicReticulum · 22/08/2012 22:58

We loved Brave, too. Ice Age 4 passed a rainy afternoon, but Brave was brilliant.

gettingeasier · 22/08/2012 22:58

Take This Waltz £12.50 in central London today , did Orange Wednesday though

Nothing beats seeing a good film at the cinema though and I will always cough up for it Smile

MuddlingMackem · 22/08/2012 22:59

YANBU.

DH was going to take the kids to the local cineworld at the weekend to see Brave as he has an unlimited card, until we saw it was £6 per child! Shock He went by himself!

Instead I took them to the local Empire Cinema's Saverday on Tuesday where it was £2.95 for each of us, even me. Much more reasonable. And the kids paid for themselves out of their pocket money, so even better! Grin

marquesas · 22/08/2012 23:01

I know its not the same as the cinema but we wait for the DVD to come out as the cost of actually going to the cinema is just too high for me now.

I think it's a shame, as a child I went to the cinema often, it must have been relatively cheaper then. I guess that films are so expensive to make now that prices have to be high to recoup the costs of making thrm.

polarline · 22/08/2012 23:18

That's quite cheap compared to our local cinema, we are in central London but it's still a bog standard screen.

I used to hardly ever go to the cinema because it was so expensive but DS has ASD which was only dx'd a few years ago, and now I get free entry as his carer so we can go more often. It's just affordable as I have the one DS to pay for though, if I had a bigger family it would really be too much even with my free entry.

LucieMay · 22/08/2012 23:21

Ds and I love going to the cinema, we see almost every kids' film. It's worth the money to us and no we're not rich!

valiumredhead · 22/08/2012 23:21

Tesco vouchers Wink

jimswifein1964 · 22/08/2012 23:21

This is precisely why we only ever go to the Kids AM showings, for £1.25 a head!! Or orange Wed if I'm desperate to see an adult film.

Cloudbase · 23/08/2012 00:19

YANBU

I took DD and DS to see Brave at the weekend with a friend and his two kids - for the 6 of us it was £48!!

I breaks my heart because going to the movies was such a huge part of my childhood. I hate the idea that after the lull of the late 1980's due to the home video boom, the pendulum has swung so far the other way that we are slowly being priced out of going Sad

EmmaNemms · 23/08/2012 00:28

Move to the sticks- our local cinema in Dorchester is £2.50 and sells organic cider in the interval for the grown ups!

singaporeswing · 23/08/2012 05:39

One of the best things about living in Singapore is the cinema - particularly the gold class. Double reclining seats with blankets, waitress service to the seats & can order as much food/snacks/drinks as you like....all for under £20.
