AIBU Re Bringing Home Human Food For The Dog

muxi · 22/08/2012 17:38

MIL feeds her dog dog food plus human food - dog gets 2 meals of dog meat and kibble a day plus 2 or 3 meals of human food, not just leftovers, she cooks extra so the dog can have

If MIL goes out for a meal to a restaurant, she takes a bag with her and empties leftovers into it.

If she goes to a party with buffet food, she nicks a load of food for the dog (she once brought home 17 chicken drumsticks)

AIBU to think this is unacceptable and to be embarrassed by it

Well who wants to eat breathed over chicken drumsticks that have sat on a buffet for 6 hours other than a dog?

Petsinmyolympicpudenda · 22/08/2012 17:40

17 chicken drumsticks? how big is her handbag?

DarrellRivers · 22/08/2012 17:40

I thought said dog was eating humans [boggle]

TooImmatureTurtleDoves · 22/08/2012 17:41

You can't feed dogs chicken drumsticks, they'll choke on the bones!

muxi · 22/08/2012 17:41

JumpingThroughMoreHoops She grabbed the drumsticks when she went to get her own food, it wasn't left over food

Petsinmyolympicpudenda She takes a breadbag with her. I'm not sure how she fits it in her bag!

She is being unreasonable to the dog, she won't be doing it any good feeding it in that way.

TooImmatureTurtleDoves · 22/08/2012 17:42

How fat is this dog?

muxi · 22/08/2012 17:43

TooImmatureTurtleDoves She peels the chicken off the bones, she loves her dog far too much to give it bones. But she will give it a chocolate because "it's just a little bit"

I'm looking after this dog for 3 weeks soon, I'm expected to cook enough food for 2 people so the dog can have too. Yes, I'm paying for my own food. This will not be happening.

Whatever about the human food (we often fed our dog leftovers from the table) she sounds like she is massively overfeeding the poor dog. Is he very overweight?

saintlyjimjams · 22/08/2012 17:44

Blimey how big is this dog? She must have fun picking up his poos.

Nicking food from a private buffet is a bit Hmm but can't see a social problem with the rest. Not that I'd do it, and I'm not convinced is treat for the dog to eat that much (unless he's super exercised and energetic). Each to their own I guess.

muxi · 22/08/2012 17:44

TooImmatureTurtleDoves Oddly enough the dog is actually really healthy (I had to take her the vets once for her boosters)

Chocolate? She should stop doing that, it can be very dangerous.

muxi · 22/08/2012 17:45

Oh and she gave her half a paracetomal once because she had runny poo. Yes, seriously.

JumpingThroughMoreHoops · 22/08/2012 17:45

I it really a dog? not some form of bear in disguise? A hound-dustbin?

SDTGisAnEvilWolefGenius · 22/08/2012 17:46

It sounds like an awful lot of food for one dog, which probably isn't very good for him. Plus the bones in cooked chicken can be very dangerous for dogs, can't it?

Tipping people's leftovers into a bag seems a bit impolite, and taking food off a buffet definitely is - if I lay on a buffet, it's for my guests, not for them to feed their pets from, and if there are leftovers, it's up to me to decide what to do with them - I might assume that would do me my lunch the next day.

Itsjustafleshwound · 22/08/2012 17:46

My mum cooked for the dog - made sure the dog had meat and veg every day.

I don't think she is doing the dog any favours - my parents' vet friend said chicken bones paid for all his expensive holidays ....

SweetBabyJebus · 22/08/2012 17:46

Oh just seen about the chocolate too- that's actually very toxic to dogs. She needs to stop that now.

(doesn't seem to be a very responsible dog owner really Hmm )

muxi · 22/08/2012 17:47

JumpingThroughMoreHoops That made me laugh! The dog hates going for walks, and watches TV. By watches, I mean she is obsessed with it and runs round in circles the whole time it is on. She knows the difference between Corrie (loves it) and Emmerdale (hates it and sulks behind the sofa).

Massive cross posting with everyone else. Blush

squoosh · 22/08/2012 17:48

17 drumsticks in her hand bag? She must have a Hermes Birkin if she can stuff that much in!

muxi · 22/08/2012 17:48

Actually, I sat the dog hates going for walks, but MIL won't take the dog other than a short 10 minute walk once a day "in case any scary dogs attack her"

I wish I was making this up, I really do

OP posts:
muxi · 22/08/2012 17:49

*Attack the dog that is, not MIL

OP posts:
Itsjustafleshwound · 22/08/2012 17:51

Your MIL needs a hobby .... That dog is going to be so bullied ...

NarkedRaspberry · 22/08/2012 17:51

I agree with the dog about Emmerdale.

Lean meat (off the bone) and some vegetables are fine as part of a balanced canine diet.

NarkedRaspberry · 22/08/2012 17:52

Your MIL's not coming to my buffet though.
