To think the mum asking for money in the park after her children go round...

Offering cakes is not right?

I don't have anything against the kids entrepreneurial spirit, but I would not, if I was their mum, go with them and do the asking for money for them. AIBU? The girl is at least 8yo and was accompanied by her younger brother.

I find this odd in other similar circumstances and am not sure whether to accept things because i don't know if they are gifts or for sale.

At my work people are constantly bringing in cakes (large open office, lots of birthdays etc) but i'm not really a cake person so i tend to ignore them. At the end of the day some fairy cakes had been sitting there all day (which in hindsight is unusual) and the lady who made them brought them round to our desks saying to people 'does anyone want a cake' and 'go on they'll only go in the bin' so i thought i'd take one to be polite and give to DP. Then when we'd all taken one she said 'that'll be £2 each'. I wouldn't have had one if i'd have known they were for sale.

I'm happy with people having some initiative and selling stuff. But I like to know I'm buying it beforehand, not think I'm beeing given it.

In the Lakes last weekend some lads were doing a roaring trade selling bacon butties on the top of CatBells, good for them. Dh bought one and a cup of tea. But if they'd given him a bap and then said £2 as he was biting in he'd have been annoyed.

It wouldn't sit right with me either, TBH.

smallww that is it really. I would not have minded at all if it was just the kids doing it, it was the cheek of the mum to be around that seemed wrong to me, whatever their lifestyle.
