to feed my dc the same meal?

Over and over again?

Backstory- I cooked a pasta stew minestrone type thing yesterday - with tomatoes, carrots, onions, green bean, annellini beans, red peppers, red lentils and mini pasta shapes. The dc love it- I sdo not, therefore there's loads left over so they have now had it for supper last night, lunch today, and are about to have another bowl for dinner. (there's enough left to feed them tomorrow as well! Perhaps I overdid it) my mother has accused me of neglect. I should offer a variety of nutritious meals and repeating the same one using leftovers is unacceptable. I think it's fine of dc are happy. Aibu?.

They might get a bit fed up of it, but it's hardly neglect!

You could always freeze the remaining leftovers for next week or something if there's really loads, or it might get a bit silly :)

Sirzy · 21/08/2012 16:59

I would probably freeze the left overs rather than having it for 3 consecutive meals

plummie2003 · 21/08/2012 17:01

Personally it sounds a very varied and nutritious meal, all be it in one dinner, so many people eat 'meat, potato, veg' for most meals, and some kids I know get fed nuggets chips and beans day in day out and the majority seem fine. I wouldn't worry, although if what your mum says is bothering you, freeze it! A pre cooked frozen meal is always a bonus for us after a busy day with nothing to make last minute!
Potentially the only thing I would worry about is that they will start asking for it all the time and not eat anything else! But then kids will be kids and like I said, it sounds more nutritious that what a lot of mothers feedntheirnkids day in day out :) x

Evasmum12 · 21/08/2012 17:05

If they are enjoying it then why not! It has a lot of veg in, sounds healthy and filling, and its not like your planning to feed it them for a month!

But yeah, freeze some for another time if you're worried!

LittleMoo6 · 21/08/2012 17:14

How old are your DC? At some point they'll likely go through a stage where they'll only eat one food for days (usually something unsuitable LOL) so I wouldn't worry. It's a healthy meal and they're enjoying it so no harm done. It's certainly not neglect but as others have said, they may get bored if they get it too often.

DozyDuck · 21/08/2012 17:28

It's hardly neglect! There are some
Children on the spectrum that will only eat one meal. Ever. The specialists say not to force it so it can't be doing anything that negative (it usually isn't something as nutritious as what you're describing either)

pregnantpause · 21/08/2012 17:37

They do ask for it all the time- although they both refuse to eat veg usually they don't object to it in this. Given the choice they will eat only this or tomato soup. Little weirdos! I'm giving it to them! (and freezing the remaining four portions)

i would freeze the rest, and use it on a cant be arsed to cook day,

but its not neglect, they are having a healthy meal, and if they are happy to eat it then i dont see any harm,

Mrsjay · 21/08/2012 18:03

your mum has no idea what neglect is how over dramatic of her , they might never want to look at the pasta again but its not neglect. freeze it for another time

valiumredhead · 21/08/2012 18:06

Neglect? Good grief, tell her to GAG!

GragPop · 21/08/2012 18:25

When I was a kid I use to go through phases of eating the same meal for weeks at a time. Im ok. ;)

Mrsjay · 21/08/2012 18:41

Oh it's not that bad. It's better than wasting it anyway! Yanbu

StuntGirl · 21/08/2012 18:48

Why don't you freeze the leftovers?

rollmeover · 21/08/2012 18:51

You would only be unreasonable if you fail to give the full recipie here.... Sounds delish! Smile

Tartymuffin · 21/08/2012 18:57

I would freeze it as I like to give a variety (and it would add a variant to my DD's frozen dinner stock) and I personally don't like eating the same thing two days in a row so I try not to give DD the same thing twice too. But that's just me.

That said there is absolutely nothing wrong with giving them the same meal, it's healthy, they like it, and they will eat it. Happy days!
