To think selling bottled tap water is....

To think selling bottled tap water is fine. I disagree with the current scandal regarding major supermarkets selling it under their basic ranges.

As long as it is clearly labelled with no false advertising it's up to the customer to decide. I'd buy it for convenience (and cost). It would be great for picnics and to be honest water tastes water to me regardless of which mountain, spring or tap it came from. :)

Hmm, not sure - what about all the wastage of those plastic bottles & packaging?

I agree with your point about being clearly & honestly labelled though.

ajandjjmum · 21/08/2012 15:42

I'm not sure what magical processes people expect it to have gone thru' at 17p for 2 litres.

Agree OP.

janey68 · 21/08/2012 15:44

YANBU as long as it;s clearly labeled.

Personally I just refill my own bottle from the tap though

Why not just save your empty bottles and fill them up yourself, that has to be more convenient and cheaper?

And Water does taste different, depends where you are in the country, what type of pipes it's come out of etc etc

But I do get your point, I can't believe folk would purposely buy tap water from a shop though.

anoli22 · 21/08/2012 15:44

But it's the same amount of packaging used to transport bottles of Evian or lemonade. To me the bottles are for on the go convenience, rather than buying to consume in doors.

I agree. There are times when I am out and I want a bottle of water - I end up buying mineral because usually that's all there is. I'd be totally happy to buy a bottle of tap water if I needed a drink I could carry away with me.

Arguably I should be more organised and carry a drink with me...

FruitSaladIsNotPudding · 21/08/2012 15:46

Assuming it was massively cheap btw. I wouldn't pay more than 20p or so for a bottle of tap water!

anoli22 · 21/08/2012 15:47

fruitysummer I do buy the bottles and refill them to keep in the fridge, I prefer them out of a bottle to a glass, seems to stay fresher and colder :)

I seem to remember Coca Cola released a bottled water product a few years ago that turned out to be tap water but disn't state so on the label.

expatinscotland · 21/08/2012 15:50

YANBU

anoli22 · 21/08/2012 15:50

Yeah I agree, about the 20p pricing, perhaps they should trial smaller bottles in local shops see if there's demand for it

Yanbu its costs less per litre than if you use a brita water filter.
Its the same thing. Its not straight for the tap, the chlorine etc is filtered out.
Imo if you are banning this type of water, ban water filters.
Its clearly labelled.

Mrsjay · 21/08/2012 15:55

we bought bottles of water in london a few years ago from sainsburies It comes from the same hills our water comes from sooo i could have jst taken my own tap water with me Grin water is water and if it comes from a tap and is fine for drinking then why not, If its scottish water then its lovely

GetOrfMoiUsain · 21/08/2012 15:59

Water does taste differently - I live in an area where the tap water tastes a bit grim.

I still don't buy mineral water though for home use, though I do frequently at work, so would rather there was filtered tap available for 20p or something rather than forking out for volvic or whatever.

SoleSource · 21/08/2012 17:59

Yanbu I drink up to 3 litres per day. I am gagging now no chance all day to drink. (we have a massive storm here).

OneHandFlapping · 21/08/2012 18:01

YANBU. I like the fizzy version - also 17p. I add it to fruit juices to pep them up a bit. I'm just delighted it's so cheap.

Birdsgottafly · 21/08/2012 19:14

I am happy to buy tap water that has been in a fridge when i am out and about, if i want a cold drink.

Depending on where you are going and what else you have to carry, if isn't possible to carry drinks for all day.

amothersplaceisinthewrong · 21/08/2012 19:17

No problem as long as it is clear what you are buying.
