Don't know the story line but no, I wouldn't. It would be bloody difficult mind, but no.

Yes. The last time I gave a statement to the police they wrote it down wrong and made out I'd witnessed something when I hadn't so I'd now deny hearing/seeing anything a save the hassle..

Seems no point if they're going to write down whatever they fancy..!

OutragedAtThePriceOfFreddos · 20/08/2012 21:34

I don't think I could. In Roxys position I might think I should try to, but I'm a crap liar at the best of times because I'm so uncomfortable with it, so I wouldn't.

JumpingThroughMoreHoops · 20/08/2012 21:35

Dont watch EE, or any soap.

Would depend on the situation, but I might have selective amnesia as opposed to lying.

in reality - its pointless, forensics would out you completely these days.

PavlovtheCat · 20/08/2012 21:35

no. especially not for murder.

PavlovtheCat · 20/08/2012 21:35

dont know the storyline. is it murder?

SlightlySuperiorPeasant · 20/08/2012 21:36

No. I have made a genuine mistake when giving a statement but rang them straightaway to put it right once I had realised.

amothersplaceisinthewrong · 20/08/2012 21:37

No, never, bound to get caught out in the end.

McHappyPants2012 · 20/08/2012 21:37

yes it is for murder ( what else for a soap lol)

JumpingThroughMoreHoops · 20/08/2012 21:38

So the Soiap Police Know this Roxy did a murder?
the Q is: would you give evidence?

As opposed to: you know your relative murdered someone, would you shop them?

KenLeeeeeee · 20/08/2012 21:38

Don't watch EE, but no I wouldn't. Too scared of getting caught out for starters!

lovebunny · 20/08/2012 21:40

no. i don't think the police are my favourite people but i wouldn't deliberately lie. i would stick to what i knew, try not to speculate or volunteer information they didn't want, and not lie at all.

JumpingThroughMoreHoops · 20/08/2012 21:41

Depends on the murder and the circumstances.

I'd be highly unlikely to make a report on my 105yo Dad smothering my mother because she had altzheimers and there was no state help - I would probably drag one of my children in by the ear if they had knifed someone in a brawl.

Depends on the murder.

throwinshapes · 20/08/2012 21:41

moon that's absurd. Did you not read it thru before you signed it. Confused

Moominsarescary · 20/08/2012 21:41

No roxy didn't murder anyone, she just told the police she didn't bump into phil in the street when she had.

Phil didn't murder anyone either, his son Ben did

lljkk · 20/08/2012 21:43

Yes, I might. But I'd expect to get caught, too.

MoongirlsCat · 20/08/2012 21:50

No. It wasn't written and not signed.

I told them what I saw, they went away.

Week later a different one turned up and told me what I'd apparantly said. Confused

Same police force who had asked what I was wearing when I tried to report a sexual assault when I was 19 (jeans and a Marilyn Manson hoodie) as though it was my fault.

The system is corrupt!!

minikimmi · 20/08/2012 21:51

Absolutely I would lie to the police, they lie to us everyday!

Schlock · 20/08/2012 21:53

Yes I would. If circumstances warranted it.

I wouldn't do it to save someone else's bacon though.

throwinshapes · 20/08/2012 21:55

Well the question about your clothing moon is appalling. Sad
As a police employee I feel ashamed- I don't know any colleague who would have that attitude now.
As for the statement, it's only a statement if it's written on a particular form and signed by you. Anything else would be inadmissible as evidence.

MoongirlsCat · 20/08/2012 22:02

Ah, me rolling my eyes, tutting, looking exasperated and saying 'really?' sorted the 'statement' out.

It happened a lot a while back when I had 'problem neighbours'. They'd knock all of the time looking clueless and asking if I'd 'seen' anything. After that I just said I hadn't seen anything/had music playing so didn't hear. They left me alone eventually.

But I wouldn't ever do it again. I doubt I'd even bother reporting a crime now, it's pointless. I've rung them a few times over the years and they always seem bored and disinterested - fuck 'em.

So, yes. I'd lie. What will they do? Nothing probably....!!

CleoSmackYa · 20/08/2012 22:03

No. I'm crap at lying anyway!

Lifeisontheup · 20/08/2012 22:08

Never and would have absolute contempt for anyone who would deliberately do this.

Tartymuffin · 20/08/2012 23:04

No I wouldn't. And if someone I knew murdered someone else I'd report them myself - noone has the right to take someone's life - and if there was a valid reason for it such as self defence of some sort then it wouldn't BE murder - and I'd still let the police sort it out.

Slightly different when it comes to euthanasia in that I am actually all for a person's right to choose to die if the person is compis mentis and it's wholly their choice, but until it is legal in this country I couldn't even lie for that (although I'd probably lend them the money to go to Switzerland!)
