...to want to make some really good, close friends - but where are they?!

I moved to a new town some years back and was fortunate enough to get to know some really lovely women who became good friends and our dh's and dc's too (I have preschool dc's and one due to start school) but in the last few years they have all moved pretty far away due to work, life changes etc and now, even though I know lots of people, I don't have any really good, close friends and I really miss that. I think I'm a pretty friendly sort of person, I love to socialise, I love having people round etc but so many people I meet seem so cold...

Don't get me wrong, I know friendships take time to develop and I'm not rushing in with a 'be my friend now' kind of approach but it just seems even difficult to find friendly, nice people who want new friends/to get to know new people!

Am I the only one out there feeling like this? Do any of you want to meet and make some close friends that you can confide in, trust, be there for, meet for coffee, have a laugh, go out on the town and get together with your husband/partner and kids?

Why does it seem so hard to make new friends?

If you are in Northants and feel the same as me, give me a shout! Grin

Whilst I have friends and we go out together and have fun etc, I don't have any truly close friends; where you feel you can depend upon each other, confide uncomfortable and painful stuff and they love you unconditionally...My friends are all fair weather friends and like you vampires, I feel a gap

Blush i have no clue how to use facebook. (should ask the DCs) I've got a profile ..... had one for ages. Have used the link just now and i think i've sent someone a friend request Shock

VampiresGymAndSciFi · 20/08/2012 21:33

Toastie... Pm me where you are?

Hmc - you are so right. So many people are so 'fair weather' and just so bloody cold! And not just that but bleedin' bitchy too!

Where do you live?

Rubber - (waves) I am almost in Cornwall!

charlottehere · 23/08/2012 08:19

I'm in pretty much the same situation. I know loads of people and am friendly with a couple but no real friends.....yet. I think lots of people don't want/need new friends TBH because they are happy as they are, busy, can't be bothered etc.

myBOYSareBONKERS · 23/08/2012 08:29

I am Northampton too!!!!

boredandrestless · 23/08/2012 08:33

I feel like this too. My closest friend is a super popular type and I seem to be a bit lower on her list than she in on mine. I like the mums a school but feel that the only thing we have in common is that our kids are the same age.

I'm starting a college course in September and secretly hoping I make some friends there. Blush

Will have a look on the other thread for the FB link, would be nice if there was someone else in my area on there (East Yorkshire).
