to leave negative feedback?

AIBU to leave negative feedback on eBay for a dress that I bought?
The dress has a few stains on and it is dry clean only, so I will have to pay to get it dry cleaned.
I generally thought that clothes sold on eBay were cleaned beforehand?
The dress didn't state in the details that it would be washed, but it has been sprayed with something as it smells clean, so I guess she was trying to get away with not dry cleaning it, so aibu? or just put it down to one of things?

Maybe the stains didn't come out in the cleaning?

What did it say about the condition? I would expect any stains to be mentioned there, unless it said it was used maybe.

BonkeyMollocks · 20/08/2012 14:11

If its didn't state that it was clean/washed then imo the buyer hasn't purposely mis-led you.

YWBU

It's bad form to leave negative feedback before contacting the seller with your grievance, what you would like them to do to remedy the situation, and a proposed reasonable timeframe for this. If they do not act within that timeframe, then you can start to think about negative feedback.

WildWorld2004 · 20/08/2012 14:14

I agree with Vivi. Some people on ebay leave negative feedback without contacting the seller & getting the problem sorted.
If it said used then i dont think you can do anything about it.

Ithinkitsjustme · 20/08/2012 14:17

Well, if you think that the seller is likely to do anything about it then I would contact them first, but too right I'd leave negative feedback. I'd be furious if I'd bought a dress that needed cleaning.

I once listed an item on behalf of a good friend who isn't ebay savvy. I never actually saw the item in person, she sent me photos and a description. After it sold I got a message from the buyer upset because the item smelled badly of damp. My friends flat was a bit of a mould-fest so I knew this was probably the truth. I offered her a refund and to reimburse her costs of returning the item. I was grateful she's given me the opportunity to remedy the situation, as I'd have been gutted to get negative feedback on ebay.

Give the seller a chance. It could be a one-off.

Kytti · 20/08/2012 14:30

I'd contact the seller too. You might be able to sort it out.

Also depends how much I'd paid - for example, if I've only paid 99p for a Monsoon dress, I'd be less bothered than twenty quid for something from Tesco!

FartyMcTarty · 20/08/2012 16:43

YANBU, but be prepared for a tirade with no redress from the seller. I returned a dress that fell apart when I unpacked it, the seller was start about it, I gave honest feedback and she called me a timewaster in response. EBay did nothing about it.

pigletmania · 20/08/2012 16:44

The seller should have closely examined the dress for any marks and stated in the listing that it had some. I am always open and honest in my listings

HecateHarshPants · 20/08/2012 19:03

If they didn't mention the stains then I would leave them neutral.

If they said there were none, I would leave negative.

Failing to mention stains is sneaky. Of course people expect that if there is anything - it will be mentioned. People assume that if no stains, faults or defects are described - they aren't there.

Seller should have said "Will need dry cleaning"

Randomchocolatebiscuit · 20/08/2012 20:09

it is actually against ebay rules to sell second hand clothes that are not clean. They also have to be stain-free.
used clothes policy
I would ask for a partial refund to cover the cost of cleaning and if I didn't get it, or the stains didn't come out, I would make a claim for not as described.

TheMonster · 20/08/2012 20:14

Contact her first and she if she offers a refund or to pay for the cleaning.

LineRunner · 20/08/2012 20:19

I think you should give the seller a chance to put things right.

yojojo1 · 21/08/2012 18:11

thanks everyone. I think I will contact the seller and see what she says/offers to do and thanks to randomchocolatebiscuit for the eBay policy!

Contact the seller as in my experience they should offer you a refund as they have sold you a unusable item , If the seller does not agree with you then open a case it may take a week or two but if you are being honest then ebay will refund you as i have had to do this several times and have always gotten my money back .
If the seller is nice and take responsibility for & they refund you then leave Ok feedback , If the seller is horrid (the type that call you a liar etc) and you have to go through ebay to get back what you are owed then i would not leave nice feedback as they will only do it again to somebody else & that is why feedback is there to stop people being ripped off .
