to not want to go crabbing

My DD1 is desperate to go crabbing down by the local beach (6 miles away). We went away last week and I spent hours sitting on the harbour watching a crabbing line (in vain!!), I took her down to the local beach after we got back, but it rained so we gave up. She wants to go back this afternnon, but tbh, I've had enough of watching a line doing nothing and really don't feel like doing anything today, AIBU?

Best place to crab is next to someone who has just poured a bucket containing 45 crabs back into the sea.

Just try the Haribo you will be amazed oh and take a big bucket.

We took our two dd's crabbing on Sunday evening and caught over 30 in less than an hour. It was fab. I must admit it would have been boring without catching anything though. Use ham. Crabs love ham. All crabs were returned safely to the sea btw.

Our kids love crabbing and could do it for hours at a stretch.

Tip - don't forget to empty boot of car of crabbing paraphernalia, including bacon.

fortifiedwithtea · 21/08/2012 01:10

Bacon must be stinky. Put bate in one of these mesh washing machine bags and tie to crabbing line. Take a dlean decorating bucket. Crabs fight when they are crammed together. Change the water regularly (forgot to say need a 2nd bucket). Release when the bucket looks crowded.

Our kids love crabbing too.

Go to your local fishmongers and ask for a fish head, tie it to the crab line and use that.

My Nephew was 3rd in the world crabbing championships earlier this year and my DF was world champion a few years ago!!!

Yes they do have a world championships! Its in Appledore in N Devon and this year attracted numerous 'celebs' Wil Mellor and Rory McGrath were both there.

How can you not like crabbing? Shock

Just take a book and chill out while DD crabs - sounds perfect I still have to supervise mine--

BigusBumus · 21/08/2012 07:20

We have just returned from Wells yesterday. We go every year and have to do the crabbing thing. My boys are 10, 9 and 5. It the most unrelaxing experience and I hate it. Like mentioned previously the drop into the water off the harbour wall is about 12 feet and there is not a single rail to hold on to or station yourelf behind. I am convinced my kids will fall in and in panic mode until they have had enough!

MammaTJisanOlympicSumoWrestler · 21/08/2012 07:27

13, tell her to go with her mates!

exoticfruits · 21/08/2012 07:29

I miss it now they are older. I used to love it. We used bacon and they always caught loads. I got the idea that the local crabs got used to spending the summer in different buckets before they all went back to school and left them in peace! Take a book, relax and enjoy yourself!

exoticfruits · 21/08/2012 07:32

I missed the fact that she was 13yrs- surely she can get the bus and you can stay at home- or just drop her off and leave her to it.

AgentProvocateur · 21/08/2012 07:36

How have I got to 45 without having heard of done this?

YingTongIddleIPo · 21/08/2012 07:40

Yes! Surely let her go alone. Win win!

exoticfruits · 21/08/2012 08:11

It is great fun AgentP-give it a go. Bucket, crab line and bacon= hours of fun.
