Yesterday, in the SE 27C heat, I see a few mums pushing buggies with something like this on their pushchairs. They are black, they totally surround the pushchair, and they don't look very breezy.

Am I the only one that think the LOs must feel hot and suffocating inside the darn thing? What's wrong with just a big canopy type shade, or a parasol? At least my DD is getting some breeze to cool down.

Thanks for the link. It seems "Will my baby get hotter because it?s black?" is a common question.

I have a bugaboo bee and I got a breezy sun canopy - when fully out it looks like a silver alien egg - it covers his legs too - it also had the mesh thing to allow a breeze in - the parasols are a pain as you have to keep moving them when you change direction and the hood canopy is no good if you are facing directly into the sun - we are milky milky white so would burn ( although I am sporting more colour than I have in a decade having spent that time in an office and this summer have been out daily with ds :-))

Not burning doesn't mean UV radiation is less harmful to the skin. Yes cases of skin cancer from exposure are lower in darker skinned people according the WHO, but not burning doesn't mean they're exempt from needing UV protection...

I live in a hot country and this was a godsend when dd was very little and i didnt want to cover her in suncream (as its not recommended here for babies under 6 months).

Though I would point out that just because your baby has dark skin and doesnt burn, that doesnt negate the need to use suncream......

CaptainHetty from my intepretation of the NHS page on sun protection, darker skin has more natural protection against UV. My understanding on it is that the eyes are the part that I need to protect against mostly, not the skin. However, I haven't been able to keep the baby-banz on my DD Sad. At least she's willing to wear the sunhat.

My Oyster has one of these built in and I think its great. It folds up into a tiny little square and zips under the pram. DD just relaxes and falls asleep when It's on, I love it.

I have a Snooze Shade that I use when my daughter is asleep.... I have a sun thing that extends the hood so it actually shades the whole pushchair (have never seen a normal hood that does this) because sun on the legs can also be dangerous and lead to burns quite easily, it's not just about the eyes or face.

I also have a parasol - which I hate and only use if I have forgotten the other two. Totally ineffective, doesn't shade anything below the waist, there is always one arm uncovered, and just to make it worse my daughter merrily pulls on it. If you change direction you have to move the bloody thing.
