To not do what my neighbour has asked?

Backstory - about four years ago I asked my neighbour to remove a distressed cat from my house as I don't like cats very much. Despite this "stray" being chipped my neighbour decided to take the cat in and thinks I should pay its vets bills.

Tonight she has asked me to cut down a tree in my garden because she says it has poisoned this cat (she even produced cat sick with red berries in it which do look like the ones on my tree). The thing is the birds really like the berries and myself and the children love watching the birds eating the berries.
The tree is opposite my kitchen window. It screens my kitchen from the neighbours behind. I do not see why I should cut me tree down. I think it is a rowan or mountain ash. It has big clusters of bright red berries on it.

She has said she will report me to the RSPCA for endangering the lives of animals.

AIBU to refuse to cut the tree down?

Is she bananas? she think you should pay the vet bills for a stray cat that happened to be in your house but which she has taken in? LOL Grin Sorry, but that's just bonkers.

Tell her no about the tree. Honestly Hmm

Binfullofmaggotsonthe45 · 19/08/2012 21:38

YANBU.

Pay vet bills for the cat? Good grief.

Shelly32 · 19/08/2012 21:39

What was the cat doing in your house if it wasn't yours?

ivykaty44 · 19/08/2012 21:39

let her report you and see then ask her what the RSPCA tell her Wink

MrsKeithRichards · 19/08/2012 21:39

What? I hope your not paying the bills and tell her to get to fuck.

No.

See, it's a complete sentence.

squeakytoy · 19/08/2012 21:39

Your neighbour sounds quite bonkers. The RSPCA will not be remotely interested as cats are normally intelligent and would not eat berries. It probably wasnt even cat sick.

bobbledunk · 19/08/2012 21:40

yanbu, tell her to fuck off.

maddening · 19/08/2012 21:40

my mum has a rowan tree and a cat and both live in harmony

yanbu - the tree stays

hmc · 19/08/2012 21:40

Neighbour is looney tunes!

JumpingThroughMoreHoops · 19/08/2012 21:40

No one will make you cut down a tree because a stray cat eats things.

FannyFifer · 19/08/2012 21:40

I really need to know about the cat, was it distressed due to being in your house?

maddening · 19/08/2012 21:41

my mum has a rowan tree and a cat and both live in harmony

yanbu - the tree stays

SrirachaGirl · 19/08/2012 21:42

Your neighbour is a crazy cat lady.

Helenagrace · 19/08/2012 21:43

shelley the cat got in when we had the builders in. It had its paw stuck in its collar and seemed distressed. I'm not very good with cats at the best of times so I asked my neighbour to help as I thought that would be nicer to the poor animal.

Binfullofmaggotsonthe45 · 19/08/2012 21:43

Perhaps it was distressed because it had just escaped from your neighbour, and was seeking refuge.

I'll bet it's bloody furious now. Perhaps this is a feline suicide attempt?

wigglybeezer · 19/08/2012 21:44

Rowan berries are edible so she IBU.

Shelly32 · 19/08/2012 21:44

Oh. I don't think the bills should be yours then, if the cat isn't yours!! The neighbour didn't have to keep it, did she.

ZacharyQuack · 19/08/2012 21:45

She bought you cat sick? That's taking neighbourliness a step too far.

MrsKeithRichards · 19/08/2012 21:46

So the poor cat has been abducted by your neighbor? What a loon!!

Woopdiedoo · 19/08/2012 21:47

YANBU.

If she is concerned about her cat she should keep it indoors. Unless you were purposefully poisoning the cat (some people actually do this) and you clearly aren't, then I don't know what get problem is. Some people are nuts.

BigHairyFlowers · 19/08/2012 21:48

Your neighbour is a nutjob. Tell her you won't be paying the vet bills and are taking the cat to court for breaking and entering.

Naoko · 19/08/2012 21:48

YANBU, that's nuts! Some friends of mine recently lost a very loved kitty to what the vet thinks was poisoning from eating lilies. They aren't going round demanding nobody in their street ever grow lilies again!

MysteryThing · 19/08/2012 21:49

Your neighbour is officially fucking barking! Hmm

Rowan berries are not poisonous.

The cat is not your responsibility in any way, especially not in a vet bill way!

Helenagrace · 19/08/2012 21:49

No one has said IABU yet yay!

Everytime I see her she says something like "you cat's been to the vets again" or "your cat's having a vaccination next week. Another £20. Vets are so expensive these days"

It's not my cat!!!
