to want to wrap my breakables in bubblewrap when moving?

Asked DH to buy bubble wrap for packing. Said, "It will be expensive but I need it for packing the boxes." He bought me 3 x 30cm x 3m! So, I have three teeny rolls, a dinner service, my wedding chrystal, my grandmother's tea service, a stack of ornaments and kitchen ware to pack! He says you don't need bubble wrap, just newspaper. I said that we did that last time and I then spent DAYS washing everything clean again.

No bubble wrap? Bubble wrap? Should I just wrap the bugger in bubble wrap and bury him under the patio? Of course, I only found out what he'd done once the shops were shut!

are you doing the removal yourself ? totally? my brothers , (lots of them!) work at removals , so, will not drone on re wrapping right now,but should you want some (ive worked with them , i drive BIGtruck(s)) advice post back , >>>coolio!

DrSeuss, we got free bubble wrap from Freecycle when we moved. And free boxes from charity shops.

Newspaper is best and cheaper. Pop unwashable items like ornaments into a plastic bag or cling film first, then scrunched up newspaper is fab :-)

Thanks, Maybelater. We're doing all the packing ourselves, then moving small things ourselves as we are just moving up the road.

Our moving people provided packing materials and we used their fab paper. Just like newspaper only plain cream. It also works as drawing paper for kids! We didn't bother with bubble wrap and it was fine.

Use the bubble wrap for your crystal and most important stuff and newspaper for the rest. You are being a wee bit precious tbh.

Ebay = massive, industrial sized rolls of the stuff for tuppence! OK, not tuppence, but its a whole lot cheaper than the flimsy little rolls from the post office

Asda - pick it up by the sheet there from the fruit boxes. I haven't paid for bubble wrap in years!

FasterHigherBeardierDaddyman · 19/08/2012 18:56

Erm, I always use the bubble wrap for popping... Blush

MAYBELATERNOWIMBUSY · 19/08/2012 20:04

ok , if wrapping yourself , its down to your own trust/paranoia re lifting /putting down , paper works just fine assuming you have enough of it , pack loosely , do not , if putting in boxes , overload box, a heavy to lift box to be carried may be dropped on floor ((ouch !)if shifting in vehicle , delicate ON TOPMOST ! ALWAYS ! , IF TIME IS TAKEN , SHOULD BE COOLIO! bury in patio if that is way forward (shortterm) but think r.west ! and hubby!.and pension rights !>simply divorce the bastard ??? bubblewrap (or lack off) has split so many couples ! best wishes !

I don't have sentimental value things, but if I did I would want to protect them regardless of cost.

Newspaper, balled up plastic bags, bits of cardboard etc are good for packaging. I did notice bubble wrap very cheap in Home Bargains the other day, it was in the craft bit!
