Tee2072 · 19/08/2012 12:43

In what way?

BartletForTeamGB · 19/08/2012 12:44

Not here it didn't.

You might the Weaning topic more helpful than AIBU.

Jodidi · 19/08/2012 12:44

We did it and it didn't seem to take ages for us. It really appealed to my lazy side as I got to eat while dd fed herself.

cheekypickle · 19/08/2012 12:45

LO is taking an hour sometimes more to eat!

cheekypickle · 19/08/2012 12:45

I know someone whose baby does

ninjasquirrel · 19/08/2012 12:46

Yes, for DS though he didn't like being spoonfed either, and was generally fussy about food and preferred milk. But probably best to head over to Weaning.

Iggly · 19/08/2012 12:46

Ages to what? Stuff your child so they sleep through the night? Wink Grin

It's just a way of letting baby feed themselves. Job done. Dd and DS got the hang of lumps etc from the off - none of this blending madness.

No need to see it as a life changing principle or movement to follow. It's just feeding.

ninjasquirrel · 19/08/2012 12:47

Oh, I see, I thought you meant ages till they start eating properly.

Iggly · 19/08/2012 12:48

And what are you waiting for an hour for? I'm probably starving dd but she finishes when we do as loads of it end up on the floor anyway. But her pops tell me plenty is going in. I don't expect her to "finish" as such though.

BobbysBeardOfWonder · 19/08/2012 12:49

"Food before one is just for fun" Smile

Jodidi · 19/08/2012 12:49

Just think of the meal as playtime then it doesn't seem such a long time, at least it didn't for me. Yes an hour is a long time to be eating but it's really not that long for playtime, in fact it's great that a baby is concentrating on one thing for that long.

JasperMama · 19/08/2012 12:51

It's great! Best toy ever!

Kayano · 19/08/2012 12:51

Grin sometimes I type and read my posts (once posted) and think that they don't come across quite how I intend.

FWIW I do mash up DD's food with a fork depending on what it is and she self feeds. Otherwise I'll cut it up a bit. That's my interpretation of BLW - I'm not quite so sure about the idea of giving food without any consideration for her lack of teeth!! Also both of mine have reflux so gag as well but BLW means they control what goes in and they have less trouble.

By blending madness I meant pulping to a smooth paste then gradually working upwards.

I agree! And I get very Hmm at people being so hung up on the term "BLW". I was talking to a mum about her PFB and she was getting all het up about doing BLW and frustrated with me as I tried to explain how I weaned both of mine but broke the "rules" by, shock horror, preparing different foods for them (reflux meant I had to be careful) and for mashing or cutting it up.

noblegiraffe · 19/08/2012 14:21

I made some purées once. That took bloody ages. DS turned his nose up at them too and they languished in the freezer for ages before finally being binned.

Littlegreenbear · 19/08/2012 14:45

I gave an estimated time limit of half hour for dd to eat.....by that time she was bored of playing eating her food anyway and she learnt that was how long she had to eat before din dins was over.

And as pp have said ...'food before one is just for fun'. My dog has got considerably fatter sinse dd likes to share Grin but I didn't worry about food intake as milk is more important before 1 yr old.

G1nger · 19/08/2012 15:55

My son likes to really take his time, too. But it's a nice change from all of the 'wolf my food as fast as possible' that I used to do when he was younger.

optionalintegration · 19/08/2012 18:56

joyful

Re the smug mother - are you serious? Did she really lecture you and use the word disgusting?
I hear stories like this and it makes me so curious as I've never met anyone this smug or bossy in real life. Who are these people who care so much?
